The operation involved clearing structures and removing encroachments from the land, with three JCB machines and 10 lorries deployed for the drive. The action was carried out by BDA officials as part of the authority’s efforts to recover land under its control that has allegedly been occupied illegally.

Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs), Assistant Engineers (AEs), superintendents and other BDA personnel participated in the operation. Police personnel were also present to provide security and ensure that the clearance drive proceeded smoothly, without any resistance or disruption.

The operation forms part of the BDA’s continuing efforts to identify and remove encroachments on public land across Bengaluru. The authority has been conducting similar drives to reclaim properties and clear unauthorised structures, including encroachments affecting public spaces such as footpaths.

The recovery of land in Shantiniketan Layout is significant given the reported value and extent of the property.

BDA has carried out several land-reclamation operations across Bengaluru in recent months. In a separate set of drives between July and December 2025, the authority reportedly reclaimed more than 25 acres of encroached land valued at over ₹704 crore across the city. These operations targeted unauthorised structures on land acquired for layouts, roads and infrastructure projects.

The latest operation in Arekere adds to the authority’s ongoing efforts to protect public land and prevent unauthorised occupation.
