The leopard was trapped on Monday after it entered a cage put up by forest officials to trap the animal, which had reportedly killed a goat in the village. Local people were worried about this incident, and the Forest Department took steps to capture the animal so that it does not attack livestock again.

Officials said a leopard had killed a goat in the area. Forest personnel then put a cage in the right place and used the carcass of the goat as bait to attract the leopard.

The plan worked when the leopard entered the cage looking for food and got stuck. Forest officials reached the spot soon after and made arrangements to handle the animal safely.

Veterinarians Examine Captured Leopard

Once the leopard was captured, veterinarians examined it to determine its physical condition and overall health.

The veterinary examination showed that the about seven-year-old male leopard was healthy. Officials then carried out the procedures before releasing it into a deep forest area.

The decision to release the animal was taken after its health condition was examined by the veterinary team. The leopard was shifted away from the village safely and released into a suitable forest habitat.

Forest Department Takes Action After Goat Attack

The incident shows how difficult forest officials find it when human settlements are close to wildlife habitats.

Leopards sometimes enter villages and agricultural areas in search of food (where livestock is available), which can cause anxiety for residents (farmers and families who raise goats, sheep and cattle).

In that case, the Forest Department responded by putting up a cage and baiting the leopard with the goat carcass.

The operation helped officials remove the animal from near the village without reporting injury to the leopard during capture.

Leopard Released Into Deep Forest

After the veterinary examination was done, the leopard was released into a deep forest area. The operation was completed when officials were sure that it was healthy.

The capture and release gave relief to people of Ranganathapura who were worried after the goat attack.

Forest officials are still faced with the challenge of protecting wildlife and safety and livelihood concerns of people living near forests. The incident also underscores the need to report the timely movement of wildlife and livestock attacks so action can be taken accordingly.

The leopard being safely released into the forest marks the end of the operation in Ranganathapura village of Gundlupet taluk.
