iPhone 17 Now Available Under Rs 54,000 in India Ahead of iPhone 18 Pro Launch

Apple's iPhone 17 has been a lot more attractive to Indian buyers as retailers are starting to offer additional discounts ahead of the expected iPhone 18 Pro launch. While Apple's official price for the 256GB iPhone 17 remains Rs 82,900 in India, interested buyers can reduce the price to below Rs 54,000 through an ongoing discount from a retailer and bank benefits and an exchange offer.

The deal comes at a good time for the Apple fan looking to buy an iPhone (and wait for the next one) with the iPhone 18 Pro coming out soon. With that, retailers are throwing more and more of the current iPhone 17 lineup at you now. So that means that you don’t necessarily want the latest and greatest iPhone but a good current iPhone with modern specifications.

The iPhone 17 launched in India at a starting price of Rs 82,900 for the 256GB model. Apple also offers a 512GB version priced at Rs 1,02,900. The smartphone is available in various colours -- black, white, lavender, sage and mist blue.

But the current discounted price should not be confused with Apple's official selling price. The sub-Rs 54,000 figure is an effective price that depends on qualifying for multiple offers. Buyers can combine a retailer’s lowered price with an eligible bank offer and exchange benefits to significantly lower the amount they effectively pay.

A smartphone with an older smartphone to exchange is very interesting to do so. Exchange value depends on the model, condition and eligibility of the device that is being traded. Buyers should therefore check the exact exchange value to be exchanged before assuming the maximum possible discount.

Apple's own trade-in programme also gives credit when customers exchange eligible smartphones. The company's India store currently offers trade-in credit of up to Rs 57,000 for selected iPhone purchases, but the actual amount depends on the device being exchanged.

Besides the price, the iPhone 17 is still a good smartphone for customers looking for a long-term Apple phone. It has a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology and adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. Apple's A19 chip is powering that device and the Apple Intelligence features are there.

Photography is a big part of the iPhone 17 experience. The phone features a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, with a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. On the front, Apple has come out with an 18MP Center Stage camera that can be used for a much more flexible framing of selfies and video calls.

The iPhone also has better durability and battery performance. Apple says that the iPhone 17 has a Ceramic Shield 2 front, and it is rated to last up to 30 hours of video playback. The phone also supports fast charging, and Apple says that it can reach up to 50 per cent charge in about 20 minutes.

The price reduction could be particularly important for those who have been eagerly awaiting Apple’s next products. There has been increased interest in the iPhone 18 Pro (and the price of the next generation) with news of the company’s new high-end products in the news for the next couple of years, retailers need to make the current ones more competitive.

If you want the latest features but don’t need the latest Pro model, the iPhone 17 at below Rs 54,000 could be a compelling deal. But shoppers should be on guard about the final checkout price, bank card eligibility, exchange valuation and any conditions on the offer before buying.

The deal also shows how the effective price of premium smartphones can differ considerably from their official launch prices. Rather than simply taking the headline discount on the back of it, consumers should calculate the final amount after all of the eligible benefits have been taken into account.

As the iPhone 18 Pro launch is on its way, the iPhone 17 will still be available for promotional pricing from retailers looking to attract customers. For people who are comfortable with owning the current generation (and not waiting for the next flagship), now would be the time to buy Apple’s latest standard iPhone.
