Samsung has announced a new 14-inch Galaxy Book 6 laptop aimed at budget-conscious customers who could also have Apple’s MacBook Neo. It will be available for $799.99 in the US and Samsung is betting on a bigger display, wider ports and a battery life of up to 25 hours. Apple’s MacBook Neo, with a lower budget of $699, is on the other hand a bright, sharper display and a much better AI performance at the same time.
The launch will give consumers another choice in the sub-$1,000 laptop category, particularly those choosing between Windows and macOS. The Galaxy Book6 can have a whole lot of real-world benefits, but Apple's cheaper entry price and A18 Pro performance make it harder than specification warfare.
Samsung Galaxy Book6 Price and Availability
The new Galaxy Book6 comes in at $799.99 in the US, which is $100 more expensive than Apple's $699 MacBook Neo. Samsung will launch the laptop through its online store and Amazon from October 5, 2026, initially in select markets. But date and price for India is unknown.
The entry configuration is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Samsung also offers configurations with up to 1TB of storage, which gives buyers more space than the MacBook Neo’s 512GB storage limit. But upgrading the Galaxy Book6 configuration would raise the cost to purchase and reduce the value advantage users might have had due to the wider hardware offering.
Galaxy Book6 Promises Up to 25 Hours of Battery Life
Samsung's biggest selling point is the Galaxy Book6's battery. The laptop has a 61.2Wh battery and Samsung claims up to 25 hours of battery life. The device also supports 45W fast charging and can restore about 33% of the battery in around 30 minutes.
But that 25-hour figure should not be taken as a guarantee of everyday use. Samsung's claim is based on testing under the IEC 61960 standard and Apple's 16-hour MacBook Neo rating comes from video playback over Wi-Fi. Apple also reports an 11-hour time for wireless web browsing.
Because the manufacturers use different testing methods, the two headline battery figures cannot be considered a direct apples-to-apples comparison. Real-world endurance will ultimately depend on such factors as screen brightness, workload, applications, connectivity and power settings. It will take independent testing before consumers can judge which machine lasts longer.
Larger Screen and More Ports Give Samsung an Advantage
The Galaxy Book6 has a 14-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. This larger screen can be used for documents, spreadsheets and multitasking.
Samsung has also been big on connectivity. The laptop includes two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, HDMI 1.4 and a headphone jack. The HDMI connection can support an external 4K display at up to 30Hz.
The Galaxy Book6 does well to support users who connect accessories, storage drives, monitors or other peripherals regularly. Apple’s MacBook Neo has a more limited two-port arrangement, which could mean carrying adapters for some accessories.
MacBook Neo Has the Display Advantage
Apple's MacBook Neo is fighting back with a sharper and brighter display. Its 2,408 x 1,506 resolution panel is rated at up to 500 nits, compared to the Galaxy Book6's 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and 350-nit brightness.
Apple’s display specifications would add to users’ need for high pixel density on the smaller screen for those who spend much time looking at images, watching content or working outdoors.
The MacBook Neo is also thinner and lighter. At about 12.7mm thick (1.23kg in weight) it is better than the Galaxy Book6 which is at about 15.7mm thick and weighs approximately 1.35kg.
Samsung Brings Galaxy AI Features to the Laptop
Samsung is also promoting several Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy Book6. AI Select allows users to select content on screen and find related information or search results. AI Cut Out can automatically remove backgrounds from images and Note Assist is designed to summarise notes and highlight important information.
Samsung's wider Galaxy ecosystem also benefits the laptop. Features like Quick Share, Storage Share, Multi Control and Second Screen make the Galaxy Book6 so appealing for users already using compatible Samsung devices, smartphones or tablets.
With these features users can transfer data, access content stored on a Galaxy phone, control multiple devices with a single keyboard and mouse or use a Galaxy Tab as an additional display. Link to Windows and Nearby Devices also help connect the Windows laptop with compatible mobile devices.
Apple Leads in On-Device AI Performance
While Samsung has added AI-powered software features, Apple's MacBook Neo has a huge hardware advantage in AI processing. The A18 Pro chip is said to provide around 35 TOPS of AI performance compared to around 15 TOPS of the NPU on the Galaxy Book6.
That difference could become increasingly important as more AI capabilities become integrated into operating systems and applications. Samsung’s NPU performance also falls below the threshold of Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC certification, so Windows AI capabilities are limited to that particular class of computers.
Apple's hardware is therefore a strong advantage on paper for buyers who specifically prioritize local AI processing.
Galaxy Book6 vs MacBook Neo: Which Laptop Makes More Sense?
The Galaxy Book6 is probably the most practical option for users who prefer connectivity and screen size over display quality. Its 14-inch panel, larger ports, larger battery and Galaxy ecosystem features make it the most versatile Windows laptop for everyday productivity.
The MacBook Neo, however, is $100 cheaper and has a brighter, sharper display, thinner and lighter design and stronger AI processing via Apple's A18 Pro silicon. Users who are already invested in Apple’s ecosystem may also find Apple's macOS integration more compelling.
It comes down to priorities. Users who want USB-A, HDMI and a larger workspace can choose Samsung; those who want good displays, portability, AI performance and a lower starting price may find Apple's offering more compelling.
For consumers who are not in a hurry, waiting for independent reviews could be the smarter move. Real-world battery testing, sustained performance, thermals and actual software experience will provide a clearer picture of how the two laptops compare outside controlled manufacturer testing.
India Price and Availability
Samsung has not yet announced India pricing and a local launch date for the new Galaxy Book6. Some reports have suggested a starting price of around Rs 67,000, but this is unofficial until Samsung announces Indian pricing.
Another factor for prospective buyers is Samsung's optional Care+ protection plan. In addition to accidental damage, repair and replacement cover will be available for an additional fee, the company says, but has not yet disclosed any terms and pricing. With a much bigger display, connectivity and battery promise, Samsung has a new solid stand in the low-cost laptop market. But Apple’s less expensive price, better display and AI hardware is not a sure thing; the Galaxy Book6 doesn’t automatically win the game. The final verdict will be down to independent testing and regional pricing once both laptops are available.
