Xiaomi is going to expand its electric mobility segment with the new SkyNomad SUV series in China. The new range will include two longer-range electric SUVs - the five-seat SkyNomad N70 Max and the seven-seat SkyNomad N90 Max. Xiaomi’s new Kunlun architecture is based on spacious interior space, flexible seating and long-distance travel capability in SUVs.
The SkyNomad series was launched in Beijing on July 30, with pre-sales beginning on July 31. Xiaomi has presented the vehicles as “intelligent, reconfigurable, spacious” SUVs that are family-oriented with a good number of cabin layouts and technology features. The launch date in China is expected in September 2026.
Unlike Xiaomi’s SU7 and YU7, which are battery-electric vehicles, the SkyNomad models use an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) setup. The wheels are powered by electric motors, and a petrol-powered range extender can provide electricity to power longer trips.
Xiaomi SkyNomad Powertrain and Performance
The SkyNomad SUVs come with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a big battery pack and dual electric motors. The range-extender engine can produce up to 112 kW, or 150 hp. According to reports around the unveiling, the engine is supplied by Dongan, an affiliate of Changan.
The system also supports 92, 95 and 98 octane petrol. With dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, the SkyNomad models are meant to strike a perfect balance between electric driving and long-distance touring.
The larger N90 Max is reported to produce a peak system output of roughly 310 kW, which is 416 hp. Xiaomi's specifications for the SUV suggest that the SUV's top speed is around 190 km/h, and 0-100 km/h acceleration speed is about 5.9 seconds. Another industry report has reported acceleration as fast as 5.5 seconds depending on the configuration.
SkyNomad Range and Battery Details
Range is one of the biggest attractions of the new Xiaomi SUV series. The flagship N90 Max can achieve a combined CLTC range of up to 1,705 km when its battery and petrol range extender are taken together. Its pure-electric CLTC range is rated at up to 464 km.
Interestingly, the smaller N70 Max has a higher battery-only score. Xiaomi claims up to 505 km of CLTC electric range for the five-seat SUV, while its combined range is up to 1,461 km.
The N90 Max has a 76 kWh ternary or NMC battery. Xiaomi has branded the battery technology used in the platform as the Xiaomi Armor Scale Battery, which is part of the wider Kunlun Total Safety architecture.
Note that the CLTC figures are based on China's testing cycle. Actual range can vary considerably depending on driving speed, traffic conditions, temperature, terrain, driving style and air-conditioning use.
Fast Charging Capability
Xiaomi is also focusing on charging performance. According to them, the N90 Max can gain around 285 km CLTC range in about 15 minutes. A 20-80 per cent charging session takes about 18 minutes.
That large battery, fast charging and petrol-powered range extender could bring customers to the SkyNomad who want all the benefits of electric driving without the need for charging infrastructure on long road trips.
N90 Max Offers Seven Seats
The SkyNomad N90 Max is the bigger and more premium model in the lineup. It has a 2+2+3 seating configuration as well as space for up to seven occupants.
One of its key features is that it has a very flexible seating system. Second- and third-row seats can slide along extended rails, allowing passengers to modify the cabin to match their or luggage requirements, and passengers can also use long-range travel in the N90 Max.
The front seats can rotate by up to 180 degrees so passengers in the second row can see them. This further serves Xiaomi’s goal of turning the cabin into a more flexible passenger space rather than a conventional SUV interior.
Five-Seat Xiaomi N70 Max
The N70 Max is the smaller five-seat member of the SkyNomad family. The N90 Max has to give up the third row, but it has a higher claimed pure-electric range of 505 km under the CLTC cycle.
Its CLTC range is up to 1,461 km. So the N70 Max could appeal to buyers who are looking for an extended-range SUV that doesn’t require seven seats.
The two models therefore have slightly different family requirements, with the N70 Max having a five-seat layout and electric range, while the N90 Max focuses more on passenger capacity and cabin flexibility.
Xiaomi SkyNomad Colours
Xiaomi is expected to offer the SkyNomad SUVs in three exterior colour options: Mountain Green, Valley Blue and Volcanic Grey.
Inside, people can choose between Cream Beige and Mocha Brown interiors, according to the report. The colour combinations are intended to reinforce the premium positioning of the new SUV range.
Xiaomi SkyNomad Price in China
The SkyNomad N70 Max has a Chinese pre-sale price of RMB 259,900 while the larger N90 Max has a pre-sale price of RMB 299,900.
Based on the approximate exchange rates used in the current reports, these prices translate to about Rs 36-37 lakh for the N70 Max and around Rs 42-43 lakh for the N90 Max. These are direct currency conversions and should not be interpreted as potential Indian launch prices, since taxes, duties, logistics and other market-specific costs can significantly change the final price.

Xiaomi has not positioned the SkyNomad as just another electric SUV. It seems like the company has integrated electric propulsion, a petrol range extender, high-speed charging and configurable seating into a product that appeals to a market that’s very practical and long-distance.
Europe Launch Planned for 2027
While the SkyNomad series is being built up for the Chinese market in the short run, Xiaomi has international ambitions for their new vehicle lineup. Reuters has reported the SkyNomad series will be launched in Europe in 2027.
The European expansion would be a big step for Xiaomi in establishing a global automotive presence. The firm has already been in the EV sector with SU7 and YU7 models, and the SkyNomad series might appeal to families looking for bigger, more versatile vehicles.
For now, the Chinese launch will be the key milestone. With a claimed combined range of up to 1,705 km, seven seats in the N90 Max, fast charging, dual-motor all-wheel drive and configurable interiors, Xiaomi is entering the extended-range SUV segment with a product designed to compete on practicality as much as technology and performance.
