13 districts in southern Karnataka and Bengaluru are on yellow alert for precautionary measures but residents are advised that weather conditions may change due to changing weather conditions and could lead to periods of severe rain. Moderate rainfall has been observed in southern Karnataka in the last few days, and rain is expected over the rest of the day, with more of it on Saturday.

The weather forecast for South Interior Karnataka indicates that the most intense rainfall activity will take place. Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Hassan, and Mandya districts have been getting mild rains during the last few weeks, and they expect rain to increase on Friday. Thunderstorms are expected in some places as the weather changes, and it will affect normal life and road travel. Waterlogged areas will be affected, and residents must follow local weather updates, be prepared for torrential rains and be aware of flooding situations.

Besides these districts, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Kolar, and Chikkaballapur are also expected to get rain ranging from light to moderate, and thunderstorms could happen. Although the changing weather may bring temporary relief from warmer temperatures, sudden downpours will affect traffic in urban areas and busy highways and people travelling between districts should be cautious for road travel in light of changing road conditions.

Bengaluru is among those districts that are on yellow alert, and thunderstorms and heavy showers could occur in the afternoon or evening. The city and Bengaluru Rural district have been partly cloudy since morning, and rain is expected to continue throughout the day. People could be experiencing sudden spells of rain with thunder and strong winds in some parts of Bengaluru. People who are in a hurry need to be prepared for slower traffic, reduced visibility, and waterlogged areas in the city and rural areas.

Bengaluru will have a high temperature of about 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of about 21 degrees Celsius on Friday. Heavy cloud cover and rainfall might bring in cooler weather during the evening and night. It is better to be out in a humid, warm, and cool environment and to be sensible during thunderstorms and not be near open areas during lightning strikes.

Dakshina Kannada district could receive at least light to moderate rain in the coastal area. Udupi and Uttara Kannada are expected to be mostly dry compared to southern interior districts. The rainfall activity across Karnataka is expected to be uneven, and the southern interior regions are likely to receive more significant showers than coastal regions.

North Karnataka is also expected to remain relatively dry on October 9. Most of the major districts, like Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Vijayapura, are not expected to receive significant rainfall under the present forecast. Dry conditions are likely to persist in different parts of the region, highlighting the difference between the weather system affecting southern districts and the comparatively stable conditions in the north.

The yellow alert from the IMD is a warning that they are ready for any adverse weather conditions to develop. Residents are warned of thunderstorms and heavy rains, especially in areas that could be flooded, with fallen branches, or traffic delays; they should not stand under trees during thunderstorms, stay away from exposed areas during lightning, and follow local instructions.

Rainfall in Bengaluru during the afternoon and evening hours could create challenges for office-goers, schoolchildren, delivery personnel, and other commuters. Drivers should maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, drive carefully on wet roads, and avoid attempting to cross flooded underpasses or waterlogged stretches. Residents in low-lying areas must also remain alert to local advisories if rainfall becomes intense.

The latest forecast indicates that the South Interior and other areas of Karnataka are returning to active rainfall conditions. Thunderstorms and heavy showers are anticipated throughout the day. Residents are encouraged to keep track of official IMD bulletins and district-level advisories for updated information on rainfall intensity and any changes to the alert status.

As Karnataka continues to experience unsettled weather, Bengaluru and the southern districts remain the key areas to watch on Friday. The possibility of heavy showers makes it important for residents to plan travel carefully and remain prepared for temporary disruptions. Further rainfall activity will depend on evolving atmospheric conditions, making regular weather updates essential for people across the state.
