Priyagold Biscuits in Trouble? FSSAI Takes Action Against Three Food Companies

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated legal proceedings against Surya Food & Agro, the company behind Priyagold biscuits, for alleged cattle feed bran in biscuit manufacturing. The action was reported on October 17, 2026, and has raised concerns about food safety and manufacturing practices.

The regulator also has initiated prosecution proceedings against two other companies, Dodla Dairy and UEIR Organic Foods, for separate food safety issues.

Cattle Feed Bran found at Priyagold Biscuit Manufacturer

According to FSSAI, there was an inspection at Surya Food & Agro after a consumer complaint. During the inspection, bran intended for cattle feed was being used as raw material in Priyagold biscuit manufacturing as a source of fibre, officials said.

The bags containing the bran were marked for cattle feed and not for human consumption, the regulator said.

The inspection also found deficiencies in factory hygiene, pest control, raw material storage, staff hygiene and the maintenance of the premises. Concerns were also raised about the handling of ingredients and intermediate food preparations.

FSSAI had already suspended the company’s licence after serious non-compliance findings. It has now initiated prosecution proceedings against the company.

Dodla Dairy Faces Action Over Milk Quality

Dodla Dairy is the second company to come under legal action in the recent announcement.

According to the report, a regulatory sample of the company’s full cream milk was found to be below the prescribed milk fat specifications. The sample was referred to a referral food laboratory after the company appealed.

The sample was believed to be unsafe due to the presence of detergent or caustic soda, the laboratory said. It also confirmed that the milk did not meet the minimum required milk fat level.

Based on those findings, the authorities approved prosecution proceedings under food safety law against Dodla Dairy and other concerned food business operators associated with the product

UEIR Organic Foods Under the Scanner

UEIR Organic Foods is the third company named in the regulatory action.

FSSAI found pesticide residues in a sample of yellow raisins sold by the company. The finding triggered further regulatory action over food safety concerns.

The three cases involve different products, but all relate to handling ingredients well, quality control and food safety.

What This Means for Consumers

The new step reminds us how much food safety inspections can be used to identify whether food products are safe to be eaten. Most consumers rely on manufacturers to ensure ingredients are actually safe for human consumption and product quality is well-defined.

FSSAI’s legal proceedings will address the reported violations through the regulatory and judicial process. The legal outcome will be driven by the proceedings and the evidence.

Consumers should be updated on the regulator’s and companies’ activities as they find out more and as more information becomes available.

The cases, however, also illustrate that transparent manufacturing and testing of products frequently is necessary to maintain public trust in packaged food.
