Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined Indian soldiers on Diwali to wish them a festive season and said that the country’s defence sector was proud of indigenous technology being used more and more.
During his interaction with personnel Singh emphasised the role of Made-in-India defence equipment and technologies in enhancing military capabilities of country. His comments showed that government was still determined to achieve self-reliance in defence manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported military equipment.
The Defence Minister’s words “Proud we are adopting Made-in-India tech” showed that domestic innovation was increasingly playing a role in modernising India’s armed forces. Indigenous defence technologies are now an integral part of India’s national security and operational preparedness drive.
Diwali Celebrations With India's Armed Forces
Diwali is an occasion for Indian soldiers (especially those deployed away from their families at border locations and other strategically important areas). Millions of people back home with their loved ones celebrate the festival but military personnel are still out there protecting the country.
Rajnath Singh’s decision to celebrate the festival with soldiers showed how important it was to recognise their commitment and sacrifice. Such interactions also give political and defence leadership a chance to talk directly with people serving in tough conditions.
The Defence Minister wished them a happy festival and said soldiers are committed to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Focus On Indigenous Defence Technology
India has been steadily expanding its domestic defence manufacturing capacity under Atmanirbhar Bharat. Indian companies, defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs), startups and research organisations have been encouraged to develop equipment and technologies for armed forces.
Indigenous systems (missiles, surveillance equipment, communication platforms, drones etc) and defence technologies are becoming increasingly important in India’s military modernisation efforts.
Developing and using indigenous defence equipment can reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthen the country’s manufacturing base; support technological innovation, opportunities for Indian industries and availability of equipment suited to the needs of the Indian forces.
Singh’s comments on Made-in-India technology emphasise that these efforts need to be continued and that more participation from domestic manufacturers is needed.
Strengthening India's Defence Preparedness
Modern warfare relies more and more on technology, surveillance capabilities, communication systems and precision-based equipment. Military requirements are changing constantly and India is developing solutions to meet the operational needs of its armed forces that can be used in future as well.
The adoption of indigenous technology is also an important step in strengthening India’s long term defence preparedness.
The Diwali interaction brought together two big themes soldiers’ contribution to national security and India’s drive towards self-reliance in defence production.
“As the country invests in domestic research, manufacturing and military modernisation, Made-in-India technology will remain an important part of its defence strategy,” he added.
