A clash between armed attackers and the Bugti Peace Force in Pakistan's Balochistan province killed eight suspected militants and one member of the local peace force, police officials said.
The incident took place in the Loti area of Dera Bugti district on Saturday 26 September 2026. The incident was reported by Pakistani media on 27 September.
According to Dawn, the attackers targeted the residence of Dera Bugti District Council Chairman Ghulam Nabi Shambani and a nearby gas company camp. Heavy weapons were used in the attack, he said.
Eight Suspected Militants Killed
Police officials said Bugti Peace Force personnel deployed to protect the district council chairman and gas company camp responded to the attack.
An exchange of fire continued for more than an hour, Dawn said. Dawn said heavy weapons, including rockets, were used during the clash.
Police said eight suspected militants were killed during the exchange. Seven other suspected militants were arrested after the clash, local media reported.
The identities and organisational affiliations of those killed or arrested were not immediately independently established. Police described the suspects as allegedly belonging to a banned outfit.
Peace Force Member Killed
The clash also resulted in casualties among the forces defending the location.
A Bugti Peace Force member, identified by police as Fazal Khan, suffered multiple bullet wounds and died. Three other members of the force were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Arab News also reported one member of the local peace force was killed while responding to the attack.
Attackers Allegedly Returned Later
According to Dawn, some of the attackers escaped from the area at first after the fire had ended. They did return later in the day and again targeted the district council chairman's residence.
The chairman is associated with Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
Police and security personnel then continued to work in the area while a probe into the attack was ongoing.
No Group Claims Responsibility
At the time of the reports, no group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
This is significant because Balochistan has seen repeated attacks with separatist and militant groups, but responsibility for this particular Dera Bugti incident had not been independently established when the reports were published.
