Lawrence Bishnoi gang's key operative Harry Boxer has been detained by US authorities in California.
Following inputs shared by Indian officials, including the Delhi Police Special Cell and Haryana Special Task Force (STF), US authorities took Harry Boxer into custody on the night of Nov 6, according to reports citing police sources.
Boxer had been on the radar of Indian investigators, particularly after he claimed responsibility for the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Juhu residence in Mumbai in Feb 2026.
Who is Harry Boxer?
Harry Boxer's real name is Harichand Jat. Originally from Rajasthan, he earned the nickname because of his background in boxing. He reportedly trained in the sport in Jaipur and later worked as a boxing coach before becoming involved in criminal activities.
He is alleged to have played a key role in operating the Lawrence Bishnoi gang's extortion network from overseas. More than 10 criminal cases have reportedly been registered against him, including cases involving murder, attempted murder, assault, firing incidents and extortion threats. His name has surfaced in cases across Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.
Threats against Bollywood actors and firing incidents
Boxer has also been linked to alleged extortion attempts targeting Bollywood personalities, including actor Ranveer Singh. In Feb 2026, Mumbai Police investigated threatening calls and voice messages sent to Singh's manager, with an alleged demand for Rs 20 crore. A Look Out Circular was also reported to have been issued against Boxer in connection with the threat.
His name has also surfaced in connection with the firing at comedian Kapil Sharma's café in Surrey, Canada.
Bringing him back to India
Securing Boxer's return to India is expected to be an important step for Indian investigating agencies. His questioning could help investigators examine the gang's overseas operations, alleged extortion network, associates and financial links.
His detention in the US does not automatically mean that he will be handed over to India. Indian authorities will have to pursue the applicable legal process and secure the necessary approval from US authorities and courts before he can be extradited or otherwise returned. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is expected to coordinate the process with US agencies.
