What is Journalism?

Journalism is the process of gathering information about current events and issues, evaluating it and publishing it to the public. Journalism varies from country to country. Bloggers are also often regarded as journalists. Journalists tell stories through newspapers, TV, radio, websites, and social media. The main aim of journalism is to help people understand what is happening around them. Good journalism is being honest, clear, and fair to the public. It helps people to make better decisions, stay aware of the world and understand different views in a simple and easy way.

How can you study Journalism?

To begin your career in Journalism, you should first pursue Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Mass Communication, which is for 3 years. In this course we can learn how to write a story, basics of reporting, editing and digital storytelling. After graduation, many students study postgraduate diplomas or master’s degree programs. But Masters degree is not really necessary for this field. Because everything that matters in this field is, having practical knowledge, having good writing skills, and having good communication skills. Practical knowledge is very much necessary and important here. We can do internships while pursuing bachelor's degree in reporting, editing, writing etc. After your Bachelor’s you can directly work in news channels, print, radio or television. 

Scope and Future in Journalism

The scope of journalism today is very much wider than ever before. It is no more limited to newspapers and television only, it now includes digital platforms, podcasts, social media and also mobile apps. This has created lot more opportunities for journalists. A person who has pursued journalism in their Bachelor’s can work as a reporter, editor, anchor, photojournalist or digital content creator. There is a wide range of journalism such as Investigative Journalism, Photo Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Digital Journalism, Sports Journalism, Crime Journalism, Political Journalism, Business Journalism and Entertainment Journalism. 

The Future of journalism is growing very quickly. News is not only shared in television and newspapers. It is shared widely through digital media, mobile apps and social platforms. Similarly, journalism and journalists face very big problems because of the truth we pitch in. No matter what, we should be honest, clear and be careful while we report. People who love creativity, writing and editing,  journalism is the best option overall.
