Hampi, the historic town in Hosapete taluk of Vijayanagara district, witnessed a magnificent celebration of the Phalapuja Mahotsava, a festival that marks the divine engagement of Goddess Pampambika with Lord Virupaksha.
Thousands of devotees from across Karnataka and neighboring states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra gathered to participate in this unique religious event. Despite the winter chill, devotees thronged the temple town to witness the grandeur of the festivities.
The celebrations began with a grand procession from the Virupaksha Temple, culminating at the Kodandarama Temple, where the Phalapuja Mahotsava was performed. The highlight of the festival was the symbolic engagement ceremony of Lord Virupaksha and Goddess Pampambika, a ritual steeped in tradition and spiritual significance.
To ensure smooth conduct of the event, elaborate security arrangements were made by the Hosapete–Hampi police. Under the leadership of Vijayanagara SP S. Jahnavi and DySP Dr. Manjunath Talawar, a strong police presence was deployed to manage the large crowds and maintain order throughout the celebrations.
The Phalapuja Mahotsava not only reaffirmed Hampi’s reputation as the “South Kashi” but also showcased the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Vijayanagara region, drawing devotees and tourists alike into its timeless traditions.
