Srirangapatna is a religious town where more and more devotees are expected as the Magha Shuddha Purnima Mahotsava is set on Sunday, 1st February 2026. The celebration is celebrated at the historic Sri Nimishamba Temple in Ganjam on the Cauvery river, and the temple authority anticipates nearly one lakh pilgrims from Karnataka and its vicinity will be going to it.
The significance of the occasion at the spiritual level
Magha Purnima is the holiest day in Hindu history. According to it, taking a holy dip into the river Cauvery at least in the morning in order to receive the darshan of Goddess Nimishamba on this day satisfies one’s deepest desires (Ishthartha Siddhi). In response to the piety of the devotees, the temple leadership has suggested that temple timings be extended:
- Darshan: From 2:00 AM on Sunday, devotees may have Darshan on the Goddess.
- Sacred Days: Panchamrita Abhisheka, Ganaka Homa and Nakshatra Homa shall be observed on the day for the safety and welfare of all men and women of the world.
