Two people arrested in connection with a security breach at Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) have been sent to police custody till September 11 — the latest development in the case so far. Videos from court showed the accused being produced before authorities as investigators probed the alleged incident.
Mumbai Police said three men reportedly got past security at Jio World Plaza after using a “suspicious government identity card”. They were carrying a firearm when they tried to enter the high-security premises, police said. It happened a day before the statement was made, they added. Mumbai Police Crime Branch has taken up the case.
An FIR has been registered at BKC Police Station under various sections of the BNS (impersonation of a public servant, unlawful entry with weapon, etc) and the case has also raised questions on how people allegedly got past security checks in one of Mumbai’s commercial and luxury retail destinations in one of its business districts.
Two people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident, police said. The third person allegedly involved in the episode is also being probed, and authorities are trying to find out what actually happened and who did what sequence of events.

One part of the investigation is whether the firearm alleged to have been carried was licensed. Mumbai Police said that the weapon has been recovered and found to be licensed. Possession of a licensed firearm does not mean use or carriage inside premises complied with law or licence conditions, so investigators are looking into how the weapon was brought to the location, how it was allegedly used/displayed during the attempted entry.
The suspicious government ID card is another piece of evidence in the investigation. Police will be looking at whether it’s real or not, how it was obtained or used, and whether the men “lied” to security personnel by using an identity card so they could get into the mall (CCTV footage; security records; statements from mall staff, etc) to reconstruct what happened.
Jio World Plaza is in BKC (business district). There are big corporate offices, luxury retail stores, entertainment venues, and other places there. Security at such places is normally tight, so when an alleged attempt to enter with a firearm was made, it was significant.
The involvement of the Crime Branch shows they are taking it seriously and want to know if it was one breach or part of a bigger plan; why entry was made in the first place and whether the accused had any target/purpose inside the premises.
The court order holding the two people arrested until September 11 gives investigators more time to question them and gather evidence. Police custody can help investigators figure out what happened (names and documents), who was involved (names and documents), and how the weapon was recovered.
At this stage, police allegations are part of an investigation, and the accused have a right to due process under law — FIR registration and arrest don’t mean guilt. More details will come later as Mumbai Crime Branch investigates Jio World Plaza security breach.
But it also showed how important strict control of access at high-profile public and commercial sites was. Police will look into whether security measures were in place (gaps existed so entry could be made) and what role the men played in that. The investigation should reveal how they got in, why a suspicious government ID was used, and what role the licensed firearm had in all this.
