Confusion has arisen because Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi Tithi starts one day and goes into the next day. But according to most Panchang calculations and religious traditions, Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 will be celebrated on Monday, i.e. September 14, 2026.

Why Is There Confusion Between September 13 and 14?

The confusion arises because Chaturthi Tithi starts on the evening of September 13 and ends on the evening of September 14. According to several Panchang calculations, Chaturthi Tithi begins between 6:36 PM and 8:36 PM on September 13 and continues throughout the daytime on September 14. Since Lord Ganesha is traditionally believed to have been born during the Madhyahna (midday) period, the festival is celebrated only on that day when Chaturthi Tithi prevails during Madhyahna. So September 14 is considered the right date for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and idol installation.

Ganpati Sthapana Muhurat 2026

Ganpati Sthapana (installation of Ganesh idol) is one of the most important rituals in the festival. Devotees bring Lord Ganesha’s idol home or install it in community pandals and perform elaborate prayers.

The most auspicious time for Madhyahna Puja Muhurat of Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is between 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM depending upon location and Panchang calculations of that place. Devotees may consult regional Panchangs for timings in their city.

Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha (Hindu god worshipped as remover of obstacles, god of wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings).

The festival is celebrated with great devotion in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa and several other parts of India. Homes, temples and public pandals are decorated with flowers and lights as devotees welcome Lord Ganesha chanting Ganpati Bappa Morya.

Many families believe that installing Lord Ganesha at home during this auspicious time brings happiness, success and prosperity, as well as takes away difficulties from life.

Ganesh Chaturthi Puja Rituals

The festival begins with Ganpati Sthapana and lasts for several days. The major rituals are:

  • Cleaning and decorating the home or puja area.
  • Installing a clay or eco-friendly Ganesh idol.
  • Performing Pran Pratishtha (invoking the deity).
  • Offering Durva grass, flowers, coconut and fruits.
  • Making Modaks (sweets), which are said to be Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet.
  • Conducting daily aarti and devotional prayers.
  • Reading or listening to Ganesh Katha and bhajans.

Devotees also fast and pray for prosperity, education, business growth and family welfare.

Ganesh Visarjan 2026

Ganesh Chaturthi is the beginning of the 10-day Ganeshotsav festival. On Anant Chaturdashi, devotees perform Ganesh Visarjan (immersing the idol in water) to conclude the festival.

As per festival calendars, Ganesh Visarjan 2026 is likely to fall on September 25, 2026. Devotees offer last respects to Lord Ganesha during the immersion procession and pray for his return next year.

Final Verdict: September 14 Is the Correct Date

The Chaturthi Tithi starts on September 13, but the auspicious Madhyahna period falls on September 14. So Hindu religious traditions and Panchang calculations suggest that Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 should be celebrated on Monday, September 14, and this is the day recommended for Ganpati Sthapana and main puja rituals also.

Devotees welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes and communities every year on this festival. It is again a time when devotees seek blessings for wisdom, success, prosperity and removal of obstacles. Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 celebrations across the country are expected to be grand, with devotion, joy and spiritual significance for millions of devotees it will be.
