The festival represents new beginnings, prosperity and hope for the year ahead. Ugadi will be celebrated on March 19 in 2026. Auspicious Timings (Shubha Muhurta)

Some times of the day are supposed to be especially good times for rites and ceremonies as they start off the festivities.

  • Morning: 5:00 AM to 7:30 AM – This is the time of the day that Brahma Muhurta is performed, and prayers are offered before dawn. Many live before dawn, do preparers as their natural morning and make it up, while at the same time going to their homes to clean, and begin the day on a spiritual basis.
  • Morning: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM – This is the time when Abhyanga Snana, or the traditional oil bath, is believed to detox the body through which the human mind develops. So is the season to visit the temples and pray for a new happy year.

Ugadi is celebrated with some deep traditions that reflect renewal and positivity.

  • Oil Bath – Everyone in your state should wake up early with an oil bath.
  • House Décor – Houses are adorned with mango leaf torans and bright rangoli designs at the door to express positivity and wealth.
  • Make Ugadi Pachadi – One of the most meaningful ceremonies is the making of Ugadi Pachadi, a dish involving raw neem flowers, jaggery, tamarind, raw mango, chilli, and salt. The six tastes are a kind of emotional map for you, the way one experiences life.
  • Wear New Clothes and Visit Temples – Families wear new clothes and go to temples in search of blessings for health, happiness, and prosperity in the new year.
  • Listen to Panchanga Shravanam – At Ugadi, folks traditionally listen to the Panchanga Shravanam, where they read the new year’s astrological calendar, an event prediction for the year.
