A 16-year-old girl was arrested in Karnataka’s Mandya district for allegedly helping a friend murder her grandmother, officials reported on October 13, 2026. The grandmother’s opposition to the girl’s relationship with the young man may have led to the alleged crime, they said.
The case came to light in Bookanakere village in K.R. Pet taluk, where the 55-year-old woman, identified as Mahadevamma, was found dead at her home.

Mandya Superintendent of Police Shobha Rani told Hindustan Times that the investigation indicated that the granddaughter had allegedly collaborated with Akash.
The young man, described in the report as a driver, was reported to be absconding as of Oct 13, the report said. Police were searching for him as part of the investigation.
The case was registered after the relative’s complaint and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. The medical findings and other evidence are important to establish the circumstances of the death.
