TV personality and film critic Kamaal R. Khan, also known as KRK, was arrested by the Mumbai Police early Saturday morning. The arrest comes after a week of investigation into a mysterious shooting at a residential building in the Oshiwara area of Andheri West.
The Situation: Bullets at the Balcony
The case was initiated on January 18, 2026, when individuals from Nalanda Society living on Lokhandwala Back Road were alarmed by gunfire. No one was injured, but in due course two projectiles were recovered from the premises:
One bullet came in a second-floor flat belonging to the writer-director. A second bullet was found on the fourth floor, where a model’s home is located. CCTV footage initially gave no clear leads, being that these shots appeared to have been fired from a distance. But forensic analysis and trajectory mapping eventually pulled the 18-member police team toward KRK’s bungalow in the area.
The Defense: A “Cleaning” That Went Wrong
At his studio, during questioning, KRK reportedly said he fired the shots from a licensed gun. But his accounts of what went down have gotten folks doubting. KRK said he was just cleaning up his gun, according to police sources. To “test its functionality” after the cleaning, he reportedly fired rounds at a nearby mangrove forest. He told investigators that he believed the bullets would be scattered among the thickets, but “strong winds” caused the rounds to veer off course, hitting the residential building instead.
Legal Action and Recovery
The licensed weapon and ammunition are seized by the Oshiwara Police, led by Sr. Inspector Sanjay Chavan and under the supervision of DCP Dikshit Gedam. KRK has been booked in accordance with the sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act. “The defendant conceded to having fired and argued it was an accidental shot to not hurt anyone. But firing a weapon in an intensely inhabited housing area is very much an affront to safety norms and licensing protocols,” a top official said.

The figure is likely to be turned up in a local court today, where the police will take him into custody for more questioning. Investigators are investigating whether there was any motive or if this simply amounts to a case of grave negligence.
