The actress Lavanya Tripathi, the daughter-in-law of the Telugu cinema megastar Chiranjeevi’s family, also reported harassment on social media and has complained to the police. The actress has recently filed a complaint with Hyderabad cybercrime authorities and alleged that unidentified individuals have targeted her and her family through cyberbullying on social media.
Lavanya is married to actor Varun Tej, son of actor-producer Naga Babu, brother of megastar Chiranjeevi. The couple tied the knot in 2023 and recently welcomed a baby boy, ushering in a new chapter in their personal lives. But now the actress is struggling with constant online harassment and has had to seek legal help.
Based on reports, Lavanya Tripathi had brought a complaint with the Hyderabad police cybercrime wing, alleging that a certain Instagram account had been posting hurtful material about her. As indicated before, the account, allegedly registered under the name “Purple Crayon00,” has been posting derogatory comments, morphed photos, and objectionable statements targeting both the actress herself as well as members of her family.
The actress told her complaint that “it has been a harassment pattern for several months.” The account sends out inappropriate messages, posts abusive comments on her social media posts, and circulates edited or manipulated images intended to defame her. Lavanya has also reported details of the account and its activities to the police to help identify the culprits. She continued that that kind of online abuse is never limited to her, she said.
The actress also emphasized that her family members are impacted by the abuse. As well as calling out others, she hopes that by making the complaint, she can hold those who abuse the internet to account for their actions and be the change they seek in preventing similar behaviour in the future.
Lavanya Tripathi hails from Uttar Pradesh, but she has become a force in South Indian films. Although she is from North India, she mostly works in Telugu and Tamil cinema and has amassed a huge following. Even more interestingly, Lavanya and Varun Tej first teamed up working in the Telugu film Mister in 2017. In the 2018 sci-fi drama Antariksham 9000 KMPH, their on-screen partnership further extended.
As a result, during this time their working relationship turned subtly into a romantic relationship. The couple officially married in 2023, after dating for several years, in a grand ceremony attended by family members and celebrities from the Telugu film industry.
The recent cyber complaint exposes the increasing situation of cyber trolling online and digital harassment of celebrities, particularly on social media platforms. Authorities are expected to look into the problem, taking the necessary action against responsible parties. Lavanya Tripathi's fans and supporters have committed support to the actress and have called for stricter action in the face of cyberbullying and online abuse.
