The much-awaited love story film Dacoit: Oka Prema Katha, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, has experienced an exceptional surge in pre-sales for its North American debut. The film crossed the $100,000 advance booking barrier in less than a day before opening in theatres today.
According to current data, the movie brought in $145,634 from upwards of 9,000 tickets at 659 performances in 339 locations across the United States to this point. April 4th saw a high-profile trailer launch with buzz, but widespread acclaim among every top star in the industry.
Telugu sensation Mahesh Babu praises the film's "solid setup" in a number of comments on social media. The "neo-Western" and gritty feel of the film has been lauded by others like Jr. NTR and Aamir Khan. The momentum was good mainly because the filmmakers were able to delay their upcoming release from late March to April 10 as a way to avoid a potential box office clash with Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2, which they now seem to be putting in good fashion, as well as hitting the spot.
It is directed by Shaneil Deo in his directorial debut, Dacoit. The desperate pair, both with terrible circumstances and past injuries, form a dearest relationship for a heist that becomes more than a ragged, interdependent tight-knit. Adivi Sesh, as Hari, a convicted criminal, gets out of prison and challenges his former girlfriend Juliet (Mrunal Thakur).
Taken in Telugu and Hindi simultaneously, the film is the first collaboration ever done between Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, who Sesh has claimed is the “soul of the film.” The supporting players, Anurag Kashyap (who also helped mentor the Hindi dialogues), Prakash Raj, Atul Kulkarni and Sunil do the heavy lifting.
But with North American pre-booking numbers showing no signs of moderating, trade analysts predict that it’s time for Adivi Sesh to have a record with the world market. After its theatrical run, the movie will stream on Amazon Prime Video, but all that remains for a big screen view for now, as Dacoit approaches a worldwide box office sensation this Friday.
