A recent viral video of actor Killer Venkatesh, the veteran of Sandalwood for more than 45 years, had resonated in Kannada film industry. Popular with film critics for his classic villainous and supporting roles as well as with figures such as Dr. Rajkumar, Shankar Nag, and Ambareesh, Venkatesh has suffered from various serious health issues.
The actor reportedly lost his voice due to complications post-COVID and now lives in a difficult financial climate in Tumakuru. When he got word about Venkatesh’s decline via intermediary, Darshan who is now in judicial custody due to the Renukaswamy case — acted instantly. In an act of deep compassion, Darshan allegedly sent from prison a ₹10 lakh cheque for him to pay for the veteran’s medical services and living expenses.

A Legacy of Support
This is not the first time Darshan has stood by the veteran actor. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Darshan (along with actor Jaggesh and Srujan Lokesh) initially paid out help for Venkatesh. However, as the veteran's health declined recently, the news reached Darshan in Parappana Agrahara and this was the occasion for this major second contribution from him once more.
"A Great Human Being": The Blessing of Killer Venkatesh
In the face of the gesture, Killer Venkatesh said, "I am thankful." For all his attenuated voice, he liked Darshan and said, "Darshan is something special. Even when he was in such distress himself, he remembered an old co-worker such as myself. I hope that after all this misfortune a great man would come back towards us as soon as it is possible.”
Current Context: Darshan’s 49th Birthday
The donation comes on February 16, 2026 just as Darshan celebrated his 49th birthday. The usual grand celebrations at his Rajarajeshwari Nagar residence saw a leisurely day in prison followed, however his followers have celebrated this act of charity, referring to it as one of the "D-Boss" qualities of the character which defines a leader.
Darshan his followers, including Crazy Star Ravichandran, said he looks after his "slaves" (fans and colleagues) even in his darkest hour. Legally, Darshan's team has filed a daily plea for legal proceedings to hasten the case; while some in the industry, including Crazy Star Ravichandran, hope at least that he would return to the silver screen by mid-2026.
