The actor John Lithgow (who plays Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s ambitious Harry Potter reboot) has confirmed that Season 2 will take place this fall. So far the second season will be based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and will be as far along as season 1, based on Philosopher’s Stone, is coming around Christmas 2026.
Lithgow was genuinely thrilled to work on the iconic role and described wearing Dumbledore’s robes, hat and beard as “glorious.” He spoke of a great cast and crew of people working with him on The Crown and how it was a dream to be part of. For Lithgow, this project represents one of the most fulfilling television shows of his career, promising a great job in it.
It was also very warm to see Daniel Radcliffe, the original Harry Potter from the movie series, and his character of course. Radcliffe attended Lithgow’s Broadway play Giant and he was there and helped out, which Lithgow said was “wonderful.” It reinforced the connection between the original franchise and the new one to the audience and it was good for fans who still love Hogwarts.
Season 2 casting is already going on. Dominic McLaughlin is back as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger in addition to new characters Gilderoy Lockhart and Colin Creevey. However, the actress Gracie Cochrane who played Ginny Weasley in season 1 won’t be returning because of personal reasons and this leaves fans wondering if they will be recast.
HBO reboot aims to take in the stories and the magical details missing from the movies and make a richer and more accurate account of the novels. Each season will cover one book; in all, that is to say, nearly a decade of production. So it’s a way in which fans will get to see Rowling’s world in a way the original movies could not.
Season 1 is almost ready and Season 2 in production. It’s time for Harry Potter fans to think of long term back to Hogwarts. Lithgow’s reveal has revived Potterheads’ interest in and their nostalgia and new storytelling. Harry Potter’s Chamber of Secrets story, with its darker themes and dark mysteries, is sure to entice them again.
