Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith is remanded to judicial custody on charges that he sexually harassed a victim of a sexual harassment complaint and received a verdict from a court after a sexual harassment case in a major turn in the well-known movie industry which shook the world and international music and entertainment studios in Hollywood and worldwide.
According to police sources, the director was first reported to the local court after which the court took him into judicial custody. The case had been initiated based on a complaint by the director regarding inappropriate behavior (harassment) against her, according to reports.
However, at work, the complaint is about misconduct. The law enforcement agency has not made public the entire allegation because of the sensitivity of the case, some officials in that community say. The case is still under investigation and we have data to add to the evidence statements and the police report which has become evidence while other aspects of the incident are still under investigation and evidence is collected so we know and investigate some supports that can be offered.
The case is causing outrage in the Malayalam film industry as all sides of every affair have rallied around it and are demanding a fair and transparent examination. And law and order is a matter between justice and due process when this was happening, industry bodies and associations said.
Legal practitioners say judicial custody is available for their own purposes to bring about greater numbers of arrests to show them as long as there is no intervention but more charges that can be handed out to those who have no more of it then their court case will be finalized. And then there is legal recourse and there has to be a legal way (proven how that should proceed).
The incident once more exposed safety and sexual harassment problems in the entertainment world. There are many cases questioning the need for a more vigorous mechanism of notification of victims and protection in our current industry today.
At first glance, the authorities would need to tell people that questions about such matters would surely be investigated and to be out of sight of the press media but would just like to let the investigation proceed without being so far affected by what they are saying and seeing and knowing. All allegations are being investigated thoroughly and all that comes next can't really affect anyone’s conclusions.
