Finally, the wait is lifted for that all-crazed "SRK-ian." In what is believed to be the year's most anticipated cinematic event Shah Rukh Khan's action-thriller "King", has its release window officially locked. Led by Sujoy Ghosh and orchestrated by action-maestro Sidharth Anand, the movie will open in cinemas worldwide over the Christmas 2026 weekend.
With Pathaan and Jawan leading their way to unprecedented success, Shah Rukh Khan is stepping back into the banger of action; but it’s something special on a personal level; the film is the first-ever big-screen appearance of his daughter Suhana Khan.
A New Era of Action Spectacle
Unlike the spy-thriller trappings of the YRF Universe, King is being viewed as a bold, gritty, emotionally fraught action movie. Shah Rukh Khan is said to act as the “mentor figure” in gray shades – a professional assassin that is tasked with saving a young girl (Suhana Khan) from an evil underworld syndicate.

Production manager Sidharth Anand, also known as the creative lead and producer for the action sequences, has reportedly involved international stunt crews from both the US and Korea as designers of scenes unlike any "that have ever been seen before in Indian cinema." The battle scenes will feature a spasmodic blend of grim hand-to-hand combat and slick fast-paced chases.
The Christmas Connection
The Christmas season has been a funder for Indian blockbusters for some time now so the creators of King are going zero for a big window. Opting for December 2026 offers the film a chance to ride the long holiday weekend to a smooth run at the box office without some big fights.
"The scale of King is gigantic. It’s a worldwide story. Christmas is the ideal time for a film which speaks universally of the national and international markets," as a source from Red Chillies Entertainment put it.
The Love Around the Duo
The film's best-known element is the father-daughter pairing. Although Suhana Khan debuted online with The Archies, King is being portrayed as her foray into the world of commercial potboilers. Insiders believe the role is physically demanding and she has been in a brutal martial arts training regimen for several months in order to match the level of intensity her father plays.
Abhishek Bachchan also comes in as a leading actor when it comes to SRK, rumored to perform a clever and merciless antagonist and for a major reunion after Happy New Year.
What’s Next for SRK?
He says King is officially on schedule for late 2026, as Shah Rukh Khan picks multiple and high-powered projects for his film. The hype looks set to skyrocket as pre-production rounds off and the film faces its last big production schedules, in Europe and Mumbai.
