In a truly historic moment for Indian cinema, superstar duo Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a magnificent bronze statue of their legendary characters, Raj and Simran, from the blockbuster film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).
The unveiling ceremony took place on Friday, December 4, 2025, in Leicester Square, London, a location steeped in cinematic history. The actors, braving the cold and rain, recreated their signature pose from the film, much to the delight of the gathered fans and media. Shah Rukh Khan looked dapper in a black suit, while Kajol wore a graceful mint green saree.
A Landmark Honour for Indian Cinema
The installation marks a landmark achievement for the film, as DDLJ becomes the first-ever Indian film to be honoured with a statue in Leicester Square's renowned "Scenes in the Square" trail. Raj and Simran now stand alongside iconic film characters like Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
The statue fittingly captures the beloved signature pose of the lead pair, which has become synonymous with romance for generations of fans.
Emotional Reflection on a 30-Year Legacy
The unveiling comes as the timeless classic, directed by Aditya Chopra, completed 30 years since its release in 1995.
Reflecting on the film's enduring appeal, Shah Rukh Khan stated that DDLJ was made with a "pure heart" and a desire to tell a story about how love can bridge barriers. He expressed humility and pride at the gesture, saying, "Personally, DDLJ is part of my identity... This is a moment I will never forget!"
Kajol echoed the sentiment, noting the film's ability to continue receiving love "even 30 years later." She found the location particularly special, as Leicester Square features in the film when Raj and Simran first cross paths, albeit unknowingly, before their European journey begins.
The CEO of Yash Raj Films, Akshaye Widhani, called the honour "a huge moment of pride," affirming that the recognition alongside Hollywood icons shows the significant cultural impact DDLJ has had globally.
