In May of 2026, The Furious was one of many Chinese martial arts action movies getting ahead of the curve. Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, Xie Miao and Joe Taslim in a biting revenge thriller directed from their home movie, the film has its first major release in the U.S. in the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and is waiting for release on 29 May 2026. The Furious (see below) and its martial arts action and emotional setup is one of the most exciting martial arts movies of all time.
Plot Overview
But Wang Wei, Xie Miao (my character) get kidnapped in the movie. His daughter is seized by a criminal family, who were not taken care of by a government, and in many places because of this he must run to the dark place to fight his way out. The theme is justice, survival, and how a father will sacrifice his child and to see his beautiful daughter. The movie is bloody and realistic martial arts performance and dance style with speed, weight and emotion of these kinds.
Cast and Crew
Kenji Tanigaki, director of Enter the Fat Dragon and Master of Thunder, leads and plays. The cast includes:
- Xie Miao (The New Legend of Shaolin, My Father Is a Hero)?
- Joe Taslim (The Raid, Mortal Kombat II)
- Such character actors as Yang Enyou, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, Sahajak Boonthanakit.

Trailer and Reception
The trailer (released in March 2026) focuses on fast‑paced fight scenes, gritty cinematography and emotional weight. Because it is a movie R for the level of bloody and violent imagery, the movie looks to deliver raw action! The film, which TIFF critics praised the movie (the choreography or story telling that it has been able to tell, even beyond one of its great and bad moments) was well received.
Clarification
Universal has not connected The Furious to its Fast & Furious. Despite its similar name, this is a martial arts thriller focused on both hand‑to‑hand combat and revenge versus street racing.
And we expect that Furious 2026 will establish itself as a premiere martial arts film that goes all round from there through its performances, fighting elements and story. And action film fans will be enthralled with an action film they can see, from this point of view and in this film world it is one of one that makes me want to go out there and watch the fighting and show the human spirit.
