The incident happened when the electric car was moving towards Nashik. As per information available, fire broke out suddenly when the vehicle was in motion. Flames spread quickly over the car making it a scary scene for people travelling on highway.

Fire Spreads Rapidly Across the Vehicle

The blaze was so intense little of the car was left. The electric car “was said to be in a severely damaged state much of its structure had been destroyed by fire”.

The incident shows how dangerous sudden vehicle fires can be on busy highways moving traffic makes emergency situations even more difficult.

Incident Raises Questions About Vehicle Safety

Fires involving electric vehicles have been in the public eye in recent years as electric mobility grows in India. When cars catch fire on highways it raises questions about battery safety, electrical systems, maintenance of vehicles and emergency response capabilities.

However, the cause of fire near Khativali is not known yet. It would be unfair to blame a battery malfunction or any particular technical defect without an investigation into the incident.

Electric vehicles have high voltage battery systems and specialised electrical components. Manufacturers do provide multiple safety mechanisms but fires can occur for different reasons and each incident needs to be properly investigated technically.

More Details Awaited

More information about what happened (e.g. whether anyone was injured and how the fire was put out) wasn’t in the initial account.

Details about the vehicle’s make, model and damage extent are also sought.

The incident is a reminder that road safety is important and to act immediately if a vehicle shows signs of a possible fire smoke, unusual smells or warning signs; move to a safe place; get out of the car as soon as possible and call emergency services.

As EV adoption grows, incidents like this also highlight the need for battery safety standards, vehicle inspections and emergency response systems: “Batteries are dangerous. That’s why we have to make sure they are safe; vehicles need to be inspected regularly; and emergency response systems have to work.”

The cause of the Khativali fire is not yet known and more information will follow.
