The medical emergency was reported early on October 4, 2026, and the Andaman & Nicobar Command moved immediately to conduct a rescue operation. A ship from the navy base in the vicinity of Indira Point was sent to assist the injured crew member.

According to the Andaman & Nicobar Command, the casualty was evacuated from the merchant vessel through boat operations. The naval ship gave immediate help to the Vietnamese national wounded.

The operation was done early on in the morning so it was very important to be on site in time for medical emergencies at sea. After the casualty was brought aboard, the medical team assessed the individual and stabilised vital parameters before the next stage of the evacuation.

After treatment and stabilisation, the injured person was safely transferred to Campbell Bay for further medical treatment. The coordinated response allowed the casualty to receive medical attention without delay.

Andaman & Nicobar Command said that the operation was a sign of how the command is continuing to support maritime protection and saving lives.

Indira Point is located at the southern tip of Great Nicobar Island and therefore it is a critical maritime location. It demonstrates again the challenge of vessels that are operating in remote waters, where immediate medical care is not available.

Medical evacuations at sea require coordination between vessels, naval units and medical teams, particularly when an injured person needs urgent attention. In this case, the naval component acted promptly after receiving information about the emergency to respond and evacuate the sick patient with boat operations.

The injured Vietnamese national was eventually taken to Campbell Bay for further care after his vital parameters were stabilised. This response ensured that the casualty could be moved from the merchant vessel to a location where more medical treatment was available.

This response by the Andaman & Nicobar Command also underlined the role of naval resources in responding to emergencies in the region on both civilian and merchant vessels.

The successful evacuation is indicative of the importance of preparedness and quick decision-making in maritime emergencies. When vessels are traversing remote areas, early response is of necessity when medical assistance is called to assist them.

The Vietnamese national was safely transferred to Campbell Bay for further treatment. The Andaman & Nicobar Command said its prompt and coordinated action reinforced its commitment to maritime safety and protecting lives at sea.
