Iran and US Set to Sign Peace Agreement in Switzerland Amid Nuclear Talks

Iran and America will hold talks on June 19 in Switzerland to discuss the conclusion of an agreement to settle the ongoing dispute, as reports about the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz resulted in a fall in the price of oil on the global market.

Concluding discussions regarding the agreement and determining the future of Iran’s nuclear program as well as the issue of lifting international economic sanctions are expected to take place during the period of 60 days, starting with a signing ceremony for the agreement.

But any optimism about the possibility of ending the conflict caused by the February 28 strikes on Tehran by both America and Israel was shaken by the new Israeli attacks on Lebanon. According to the warning issued by Iran’s central military command, Khatam al-Anbiya, Israel may expect “harsh retaliation” against the attacks, which targeted two vehicles in the Lebanese town of Mayfadoun and another one in the village of Shukeen in the vicinity of the town of Nabatieh in south Lebanon, causing four deaths.

Israel's armed forces indicated that they launched a raid when they discovered a “suspicious vehicle” in the vicinity of their troops' location, and their troops intercepted several rockets, launching air strikes on one of the launchers.  It was confirmed by the Swiss Foreign Ministry that the signing ceremony scheduled for June 19 will be held at the upscale Burgenstock resort overlooking Lake Lucerne in the Swiss Alps.

Sources within the US government revealed anonymously that the agreement had been signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Vice-President J.D. Vance, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi and the country’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

“A new round of negotiations for reaching a final agreement between Iran and America is most probably going to be launched on Friday,” says Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghi.

Ghalibaf will participate in the signing ceremony, while for the American delegation, Vance will represent the United States of America, which might also have Trump present.”
