Pakistan has taken a major step towards digital governance with the launch of AI-based Prime Minister Office System (PMOS) by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This new system will modernize government operations by digitally recording, communicating, monitoring and tracking every directive issued by the Prime Minister from the moment it is issued to its implementation, verified completion, and post-completion review.
At the launch ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described PMOS as a transformative project that will change the way Pakistan’s federal government works and will bring about a transformation in the way Pakistan's federal government functions.
The Prime Minister made clear that the days of paper-based administration must come to an end. He instructed all ministries, departments and relevant government agencies to adopt the AI-powered platform and integrate it into their daily operations.
"From today onwards, I will not expect any of you with a file in your hands. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism," Shehbaz Sharif said during a meeting with senior government officials.
The Prime Minister praised Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and the IT Secretary for the successful implementation of the system. He praised them for their efforts in developing a platform that is expected to increase the transparency, accountability and efficiency of government services which in turn will improve transparency in government and efficiency in all the activities conducted by them.
The launch ceremony was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja, senior bureaucrats and other top government officials. At the event the Prime Minister was given a detailed demonstration of the platform's features, objectives, and technological capabilities.
According to officials who briefed the Prime Minister, PMOS is the first government platform in Pakistan to incorporate artificial intelligence as a core component of governance, decision-making, and implementation monitoring. The system is designed to facilitate the smooth communication of the Prime Minister’s directives to ministries and departments and implement them within a certain timeline and quality standard.
PMOS is not just another government file-tracking system; it has a very advanced AI engine that will read, classify, analyze and prioritize directives. This intelligent layer will help the government to see what is missing and monitor the progress, and give policymakers the results.
The system also provides a secure decision-support mechanism by integrating structured information, advanced analytics and secure digital infrastructure, officials said. The AI-powered dashboard will enable government leaders to monitor policy performance and make decisions in real time so that crucial decisions are informed by reliable data and timely reporting.
Another important aspect of PMOS is to facilitate policy refinement. In light of artificial intelligence and data analytics, the government aims to make technological, human and financial investment more efficient. This approach will also make economic planning more efficient, public services better and overall governance more effective, officials said.
At the heart of the platform is a digital repository which has continuously recorded every single directive that is made by the Prime Minister and how it was implemented. It provides an institutional knowledge base that is able to maintain government decisions, sustain administration and strengthen accountability by keeping official actions public.
The government wants to start to implement governance reforms at the Prime Minister's Office to improve governance at the Prime Minister's Office first and then the mechanism will be implemented throughout Pakistan's entire administrative system. Officials say the gradual introduction will allow agencies and departments to adapt to the new system and bring it to a smooth nationwide implementation.

PMOS launched in Pakistan to make digital transformation and to embrace the latest technologies for public administration. As governments worldwide are using artificial intelligence to improve governance systems, Pakistan's AI-based Prime Minister Office System is a new concept for modernizing state institutions and improving the efficiency of decision-making and delivery of services to people at the state level.
If implemented, PMOS might revolutionize the manner in which the directives of government are implemented, make governments more accountable at every level and make Pakistan among those countries that would benefit from the use of artificial intelligence to improve public sector governance.
