Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is going to be an attraction in Visakhapatnam, with the idol of Lord Ganesha in Gajuwaka being decorated with an extraordinary one crore glass bangles.
The unique idol named Sri Divya Kankana Alankara Maha Ganapati will be installed in the Srinagar area of Gajuwaka by city-based SV Entertainments. Unlike traditional Ganesh idols that are mainly made of flowers, ornaments, fabrics and other traditional materials, this installation will have glass bangles as its centrepiece.
The unexpected concept is expected to be very popular among devotees as well as visitors interested in the art of the big festival and Indian craftsmanship.
More than 1,00,00,000 glass bangles have been sourced from Uttar Pradesh for the project, the organisers said. Artisans from Chirala in Andhra Pradesh are involved in constructing and decorating a huge installation.

Sri Divya Kankana Alankara Maha Ganapati is being constructed using small wooden logs and canes, according to the organisers. Then the structure will be transformed with the elaborate bangle-based decoration.
Glass bangles have long been associated with Indian traditions, celebrations and cultural symbols. By embedding such a familiar ornament into a large public Ganesh idol, it has its own identity.
The project also demonstrates traditional artisans working with and in the construction and decoration process. Turning millions of individual bangles into an organised decorative design on a giant idol takes a great deal of planning, labour and craftsmanship.
The Gajuwaka celebration is also part of SV Entertainments’ continued tradition of large and unusual Ganesh idols.
In 2025, an 89-foot Ganesh idol with one lakh cotton and silk sarees was also installed by the group. Its previous festival installations have also emphasized large-scale themes and distinctive decorative models.
How tall is the 2026 Gajuwaka Ganapati?
There have been differing reports regarding the exact height of the 2026 idol.
A July 2026 report by The Times of India stated that the Sri Divya Kankana Alankara Maha Ganapati was 89 feet tall. The current Gajuwaka Ganesh Utsav website lists the idol at 68 feet.
Another recent report has described the idol as 109 feet tall.
Based on these differing numbers, visitors should check the organizers' latest official announcements for the final confirmed height before visiting. Whatever the actual measurement, the size of the installation and its one-crore-bangle decoration will certainly make it one of the central attractions of the celebrations.

Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated across India on Monday, September 14, 2026.
For Gajuwaka, the Chaturthi Tithi begins at 7:06 AM on September 14 and ends at 7:44 AM on September 15, according to the timings provided in the festival information.
The Madhyahna Ganesh Puja Muhurat in Gajuwaka is scheduled from 10:39 AM to 1:06 PM on September 14.
Devotees have traditionally considered the Madhyahna period to be suitable to perform Ganapati puja on Ganesh Chaturthi.
The celebrations will continue through the festival period before Ganesh Visarjan on Friday, September 25, which is Anant Chaturdashi.
