An escalator ride that was nothing unusual transformed into a heated one, after a man was said to have stopped or slowed down to record TikTok content and leave little room for others to get through.
A video posted online shows a man busy filming himself as he stands on an escalator. He was said to have blocked the way for people to get past him. What was a social-media video was soon tense when a man behind him started to get mad.
The second man can be seen trying to get past the person filming. As the situation got worse, the two got into a physical fight and the content creator appears to slap the other man during the argument.
I have seen Facebook and other sites talk about people posting videos in crowded public spaces so much more, I mean that people are recording in public space and they’re in a very good feeling all the more so than I am, because it’s so frustrating.
Escalators are particularly sensitive spaces because passengers have limited room to move around. Someone standing in the middle can make it difficult for others to pass, especially during busy periods. The public transport systems and shopping centres encourage passengers to stand on one side of an escalator and leave the other side clear where local rules and customs permit.

The viral video has attracted mixed responses from social media users. Some viewers say the person who was filming is probably blocking the escalator and others say that physical confrontation is never a place to settle a dispute.
The exact location of the incident and the circumstances leading up to the confrontation were not immediately clear from the circulating footage. It is also difficult to establish everything that happened before and after the recorded part of the encounter.
But that’s another example of how quickly casual disagreements can escalate into confrontations when the cameras are rolling. Social media creators may want attention for their videos, but public spaces are shared by everyone, and blocking pathways can inconvenience other people.
Short forms of video, which have been prevalent on social media for many years now, have proven to be the perfect example of filming with a camera aware of what one is filmed. In short form videos, you need to be aware of the environment if you’re filming and have a lot of people with you.
If you have a few seconds of viral content on social media and you see thousands of views you may get a lot of views too, but if you stop the public movement you might feel that there might be a lot of tension.
