Arvind Kejriwal’s political journey is always associated with a simple blue WagonR but pictures of a much larger security convoy have recently revived a debate about how dramatically the former Delhi chief minister’s public movements have changed.
Kejriwal, who is now the national convenor of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), no longer holds the office of Delhi chief minister. He is no longer an MLA.
His movements can still involve a big security apparatus because of the protection he has been given. In March 2025, while he was visiting Punjab in a convoy of around 21 vehicles, his speech to political opposition and a controversy on the internet broke out.
The contrast is striking because Kejriwal’s early political image was built around simplicity. His blue Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been so closely linked to his rise in Delhi politics.
The first-generation WagonR, registered in 2005, was donated to the Aam Aadmi Party and used in the early days of the party’s electoral campaign. It became one of the most recognizable symbols of his grassroots political image.
The image was recently brought back into the spotlight after Kejriwal discussed the iconic car on Sarthak Goswami’s podcast. He added that the car was used after the first election of the party but was later condemned, while he began using an official vehicle after 2015.
The viral convoy debate, however, needs some context. Some claims on social media sometimes claim Kejriwal’s convoy has more than 30 vehicles or even that it could be compared with the US president’s convoy. Those comparisons are not real facts without reliable evidence of the actual number of vehicles and circumstances.
Arvind Kejriwal is neither MLA nor MP but still his convoy is bigger than the president of US.

What is documented is that a 21-vehicle cavalcade accompanied Kejriwal during a 2025 Punjab visit. Many of the vehicles were associated with Kejriwal’s security arrangement, including police vehicles. The large convoy raised criticism because Kejriwal was no longer holding an elected office at that time.
Kejriwal remains an active political figure. In August 2026, he led AAP’s campaign and protests over the E20 petrol issue including an attempted march towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence.
The contrast between the modest WagonR associated with his early political career and the large security convoy seen during some recent appearances has thus become a powerful social media talking point.
The security vehicles, supporters say, are a result of an important national political leader’s security. For critics, the images bring up questions about VIP culture and the distance between political branding and reality.
Either way, the transformation from a blue WagonR to a heavily protected convoy is one of the most striking visual stories about Kejriwal’s political journey.
