Brave citizens rescue victims of Hanoi building fire. Introduction. A dramatic fire erupted in alley 218, Linh Nam Street, Vinh Tuy Ward, Hanoi Tuesday in a seven‑storey residential building in the city. Thick smoke and flames spread across the floor and terror gripped the elderly and the inhabitants of the building. But two ordinary men in this chaotic community became heroes with the courage to break through a corrugated iron roof and save victims of the disaster. Their timely actions saved lives and they were admired in the community.
The fire started on the lower floors of the building and quickly spread up to the top floors and climbed to the stairways and rooms of the building with smoke. Residents of these buildings were trapped in the alleys and so few people left to escape. As it became more dangerous two men climbed onto a corrugated iron roof near the building to escape. The strength of the men was such that they penetrated the roof to open their escape route up the roof.
Due to quick thinking, numerous people were able to climb out and get onto the ground quickly when they saved their life. At least seven people were rescued before firefighters arrived, according to eyewitnesses. The fire service was immediately able to control the fire and evacuate the last inhabitants eventually.
Images and videos from the rescue spread widely on social media during which the two men pulled victims to safety. They were hailed as ‘real heroes’ by some who are also ‘real heroes’ themselves as they said they did so during such times of crisis.
Local authorities praised their courage, recalling how their action spared lives. Most significantly, one of the rescuers, an undergraduate with whom I’d been going to school was celebrated for his bravado and courage.
Urban fires are a common problem in Hanoi, especially in the densely populated neighborhoods with narrow alleys and multi‑storey buildings. Rescue operations are often very challenging because fire trucks can't even reach all those areas. This is just a good case of real fire safety awareness, emergency preparedness and community cooperation in such situations.
Experts have long advocated tougher building safety measures and tougher fire prevention policies. And while professional rescue teams are essential, so are everyday people who are also in the loop to save lives when the emergency hits its limit, they maintained.
The Linh Nam Street fire was a tragedy but also revealed extraordinary bravery and courage. The two men who broke through the roof to save the trapped victims showed us that heroism can be found in ordinary people in society. Such courage and bravery in times of crisis is what is necessary that at the end of the day can be the difference between life and death.
