"A Pearl Parrot in a Heap of Curd Rice": Doddamylara Karnika Predicts Bumper Harvest and Prosperity for 2026

On the auspicious occasion of Bharat Hunnime, the traditional Karnikotsava (prophecy festival) of Lord Mylara Lingeshwara was celebrated with grand splendor in Doddamylara. Amidst the chants of "Elukoti Elukoti... Parak!", the Goravayya (the divine messenger) delivered the annual prophecy, which suggests that 2026 will be a year of "muttina gini" (pearl-like parrot) prosperity.

The Divine Prophecy

This year, the Goravayya climbed the traditional wooden bow (Dhanush) and uttered the cryptic yet promising words:

"Ambli rashige muttina gini samriddhi aytale... Parak!" (A pearl-like parrot shall descend upon the heap of curd rice; there shall be abundance... Parak!)

In the local agrarian context, this prophecy is interpreted as a sign of excellent rainfall and a bountiful harvest. The "Ambli rashi" (heap of curd rice/porridge) represents the food security of the common man, while the "Muttina gini" (pearl parrot) symbolizes high-quality yields and economic wealth. Agricultural experts and elders in the region believe this indicates that while there might be challenges, the end result for farmers will be highly profitable.

The Ritual and the Fall

The Karnika is not merely spoken; it is performed through an ancient ritual. The Goravayya, representing Lord Mylara Lingeshwara, climbed a 15-foot bow. After observing the horizon and entering a trance-like state, he delivered the prophecy to the silent, expectant crowd.

Immediately after uttering the final "Parak," as per tradition, the Goravayya lost consciousness and fell from the bow, only to be caught by the waiting devotees and priests. This dramatic fall is seen as the conclusion of the divine communication between the deity and his followers.

A Sea of Devotion

Thousands of pilgrims from across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra descended upon Harapanahalli to catch a glimpse of the event. The atmosphere was electric with the sounds of traditional instruments and the sight of devotees covered in turmeric (Bhandara), which is sacred to Lord Mylara.

For the people of the Vijayanagara district, the Doddamylara Karnika is the definitive guide for the upcoming agricultural year. Farmers often plan their sowing cycles based on the "Vani" (voice) heard during this festival. With this year’s positive prediction, the rural economy of the region is expected to see renewed vigor.

Historical Significance

The Mylara Lingeshwara temple traditions date back centuries, celebrating the victory of Lord Mylara over the demons Mani and Mallasura. The Karnika is considered one of the most accurate folk prophecies in South India, often predicting political shifts, weather patterns, and social changes.
