New Delhi: Police have discovered an alleged drug trafficking network in the Health Minister’s home district, where ambulances were allegedly being misused to transport and distribute narcotic substances. Emergency medical vehicles have been widely used for criminal purposes in the case.
According to initial information, the suspects used ambulances to avoid detection while transporting illegal drugs. The network was thought to target students and to supply narcotic drugs to schools and other places young people frequent.
Police Conduct Swift Operation
In line with specific intelligence, police conducted a special operation and arrested several people who were believed to be involved with the alleged drug distribution network.
Authorities also seized ambulances that allegedly were used in the operation, as well as other material that could be evidence in the investigation.
The seized items and digital evidence are currently being forensically examined, they said.
The Ambulances Allegedly Used as Cover
The investigators suspect that the accused took advantage of the fact that ambulances generally get priority movement on roads and are less likely to attract routine checks.
The suspects did this by using emergency vehicles as cover, they said, to transport narcotics without raising suspicion.
Police are investigating whether the ambulances were private or connected to any healthcare service provider.
Students Allegedly Targeted
According to the initial investigation, the network was involved in the supply of narcotics to students, prompting concern among parents, schools, and residents.
The authorities are trying to determine the full extent of the operation and if other people were in the distribution chain.
Investigation Continues
The investigation is still in its early stages, police said, and they are investigating whether the arrested suspects are part of a larger organised drug trafficking syndicate.
For now, more arrests are expected as investigators will examine seized vehicles, mobile phones, financial transactions, and other evidence collected in the operation’s investigation.
