Former Bigg Boss Kannada contestant and well-known numerologist Aryavardhan Guruji is in trouble again after he made some controversial statements about Goddess Lakshmi and women in a recent interview. Shankarpuram police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him after a video clip went viral on social media.
Aryavardhan Guruji has earned a reputation for his TV appearances and claims on numerology that he can predict events by using numerology. But now he has become the target of angry people, social activists, and police, and an investigation is underway.
The controversy started after clips from an interview with a private YouTube channel were leaked. Guruji is alleged to have made sexist remarks about Goddess Mahalakshmi and women's bodies, as well as to have insulted and degraded the female body.
The video quickly spread to social media, and users protested the numerologist’s actions, with the numerologist’s own organization and women’s rights groups calling for legal action.
After the backlash, Suman Kumar (associated with the Karnataka Govu Rakshakara Sene) filed a complaint to the Shankarpuram Police Station in Bangalore. He said Aryavardhan Guruji had made provocative comments that would hurt religious beliefs and insult women in a public forum. In his complaint, the complainant asked the police to take any legal action against him.
Initially, the police reported it as a Local Petition (LPT No. 74/2026) and sought legal advice as the allegations were very sensitive. Investigation of the viral video, lawyers and others examined it and it was reported that the content was found to be a criminal offence under different laws.
The police found that there was sufficient evidence to file an FIR against Aryavardhan Guruji after the preliminary examination. In the FIR, he was alleged to have used objectionable words regarding Goddess Mahalakshmi and to have made statements which can be interpreted as insulting to the deity and women's dignity.
The FIR also states that the alleged comments had the potential to hurt religious sentiments, provoke public unrest, and create disharmony among communities. Police have now opened a thorough investigation into the matter.
A notice will be issued to Aryavardhan Guruji to appear for questioning. If the investigation and the evidence gathered are not satisfactory, further legal action can take place. Police have not announced any arrest, but it is still an ongoing investigation in progress.
Not that Aryavardhan Guruji is the first one under legal and public scrutiny. In the past, he had been criticized for predicting things based on numerology in IPL cricket tournaments, which turned out to be wrong and became targets of online trolling. He had also faced accusations of financial fraud and of being dishonest in numerology courses, but those were separate legal inquiries.
Aryavardhan Guruji's FIR has once again brought the controversy into the limelight and is already playing out on television debates and social media. Public opinion is still divided; some say we should give more responsibility to public figures when we speak about religion and women.
It is also useful to remind people of the law that statements in public interviews or on digital platforms can be illegal if they hurt religious sentiments or harm the dignity of the individual or the community. Now that police are investigating, Aryavardhan Guruji needs to take the case to court.
