Assam Flood Victims: Students Can Get Free Duplicate Educational Documents Without Police Report

As a big relief for students affected by natural calamities, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) announced on Thursday that students who lost their necessary educational documents in the recent floods can now get duplicate copies of their materials for free. In this way, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered the same on social media, to ensure that affected students are not disadvantaged academically by the disaster.

The special temporary relief scheme is beneficial to students living in four of the affected districts (Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat) and also helps them to receive relief. These areas suffered so much damage in the recent flooding that many students and families lost their belongings including their school records. Due to the fact that admission cards as well as marksheets, pass certificates and registration certificates are crucial for higher education admissions, scholarships and future employment, the state government intervened to alleviate their stress and anxiety.

To simplify the application process and make it as easy as possible, the ASSEB has greatly relaxed administrative requirements. For duplicate academic records, applicants will need to lodge a police report or a First Information Report (FIR) to verify the loss of the documents. But under this special notification, students are completely exempt from this requirement. All applicants need to do is submit a simple self-declaration that their original certificates, marksheets or admit cards were lost or severely damaged due to the recent floods in their area.

Eligible students can apply online through official portals based on their level of education. Students who need duplicate HSLC, Assam High Madrassa (AHM) and other Class 10 exams applications can apply directly via the board's online services portal. Those students who need to apply for identical Higher Secondary (HS) records can apply online with the ASSEB Higher Secondary portal. By waiving all processing fees and eliminating bureaucratic barriers like police verification, the Assam government is doing everything in place to make these indispensable records available in time in the future and this will ensure that the students are able to continue their education without financial or administrative challenges in difficult times.
