Ayodhya has witnessed a huge influx of devotees during the Sawan festival, with more than 40 lakh devotees visiting the holy city so far. But the huge response has turned Ayodhya into a major religious center during the Sawan period as well. Devotees from different parts of the country have been arriving in the city to participate in traditional rituals and seek blessings at its well-known temples.
One of the chief attractions for pilgrims has been Saryu snan, the ritual bathing in the sacred Saryu River, and the people have flocked to the riverbanks (especially at the auspicious times) to pray (and perform their religious rituals). The Saryu is one of the most important places in Ayodhya’s spiritual tradition and still one of the city’s most visited pilgrimage destinations.
Nageshwar Nath Temple also has great footfall. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is especially important during Sawan, a month of Shiva worship. The devotees have been coming to the temple regularly to pray and perform rituals as part of their Sawan worship.
Another big draw has been the opportunity to see Ram Lalla darshan. Ayodhya is one of India’s most popular religious tourism destinations since the Ram Mandir opened for devotees in the year 2000. The continuous flow of pilgrims during Sawan has added to the city’s already busy pilgrimage calendar.

The Jhulan Utsav is also going on in Ayodhya now. The festival is celebrated at temples with beautiful swings and special religious ceremonies, and devotees and visitors are coming. Temples in Ayodhya are going to celebrate a lot of different festivals, and so is it.
The scale of the gathering has also placed a lot of responsibility on the local authorities. Because millions of devotees come to the city, crowd control, traffic and sanitation management, medical assistance and emergency response are all important aspects in the festival management.
