In Forbesganj, an unusual incident broke the news when a Baba, apparently drunk, was begging for money and wandering unnecessarily near a place where women were bathing. His behavior disturbed and frightened locals.
Witnesses said the Baba, drunk, wandering without intention, was disturbing the atmosphere. His lingering around the women's bathing area was considered improper and disrespectful. This was picked up by a local man and he intervened.
In anger, the youth confronted the Baba and delivered what locals called a “tight lesson.” The confrontation was to put a halt to the Baba’s misbehavior and to send a message that that behavior would not be allowed in public spaces.
Nearby people endorsed the action of the youth saying it was in the interests of preserving the dignity of women and order. Others had echoed an approach that to deal with the situations would be more preferable if the authorities had been notified.
The affair is just one more reminder of the way that public misbehavior, particularly if done while under the influence of alcohol, can easily escalate into a heads-on showdown. The Baba’s actions were met with condemnation but the youth’s response showcased the frustration of locals craving respect and safety in their community spaces.
