Three baby cobras caused quite a jolt at Madhuranagar Police Station in Hyderabad on Saturday, July 11 after they were found inside the police station premises, triggering panic among police personnel and staff.
The hatchling cobras apparently came into the police station in the early morning hours and caught everyone by surprise. Officers and employees quickly moved away from the area after they saw the venomous reptiles and sent wildlife rescuers out to help.
As soon as the emergency was on the scene, members of the Friends of Snakes organization arrived at the police station and safely rescued the three baby cobras without harm to the reptiles or anyone in the area. The rescue was completed safely and the police staff and the snakes were safe.
A video of the rescue which has been widely shared on social media shows the hatchlings being brought out of the net and placed in a bucket and taken to a safer place. The calm and professional nature of the rescue has been appreciated by the people online.
Wildlife experts often point out that baby snakes may indicate a nest is nearby. Although no adult cobra was found in the police station, authorities may investigate the surrounding area to check that there are no more snakes or nesting sites that could pose a risk.

The incident is a reminder that snake sightings are more common during the monsoon season. Heavy rains flood underground burrows and snakes find it difficult to shelter themselves in homes, offices, schools and public buildings when heavy rains occur.
During this time in Telangana, snake rescue calls are also up during this time.
People should not panic or try to catch snakes themselves, they say. Baby cobras are venomous and can bite if they feel threatened. Residents should keep a safe distance so they can contact wildlife experts or wildlife rescue teams or forest officials if snakes are seen, wildlife experts say.
For decades the Friends of Snakes organization has been at the forefront of rescuing reptiles in Hyderabad. Their volunteers respond to calls from people that are worried about snakes in residential colonies, commercial buildings, government buildings, and schools.
Fortunately no injuries were reported in the incident at the Madhuranagar Police Station. The rescued baby cobras will be released in a suitable natural habitat away from human settlements as part of wildlife rescue.
Human interaction with wildlife is increasingly common as urbanization grows in touch with the natural world. The authorities and wildlife conservation groups are still calling for coexistence and public awareness of this and for trained rescuers to save wildlife instead of harming animals.
The unusual rescue has since gained wide attention on the web as well as praise from snake rescuers and police for quick response to the situation and the appropriate response in such a high-risk emergency and safe way.
