A double murder incident has sent shockwaves through Karnataka's Ballari district, where a family meeting to resolve marital differences was turned into a gruesome tragedy. A 24-year-old woman and her father were hacked to death by her husband and father-in-law at what police say was a reconciliation meeting at the accused’s home.
The incident took place in a village of Guggarahatti, where police have taken the wife’s husband, Teja, and his father, Gurushankar, into custody for questioning. A murder case has been registered, and investigators are examining all aspects of the crime.
Victims Invited for Reconciliation
The victims have been identified as Nagalakshmi (24) and her father, Srinivasa (48).
Investigators said Teja had invited his wife and father-in-law to his house, saying he wanted to resolve the long-standing marital disputes between the couple. Family members were hopeful of a peaceful settlement.
However, during the discussion, an argument broke out between the families.
Alleged Attack During Heated Argument
Police said that after the altercation, Teja and his father allegedly attacked Nagalakshmi and Srinivasa with sharp-edged weapons.
Both victims sustained serious injuries and died at the scene before medical help was able to reach them.
Forensic teams later investigated the scene and collected evidence to help investigators in reconstructing the sequence of events.
Suspicion over Wife's Character Under Investigation
Early police inquiries indicate that Teja also suspected the character of his wife and had repeated domestic disputes between the couple.
This ongoing mistrust may well be one of the reasons behind the killings, investigators believe. But officers said that all angles are being studied, and the exact motive will only be determined once the investigation is complete.
Accused Remained at the Scene
As in many such cases where suspects try to escape, police said the accused father and son remained inside the home after the incident.
Residents informed the police about the killings, following which officers rushed to the scene.
The bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination and both accused were taken into custody for questioning.
Investigation Underway
Some senior police officials confirmed forensic evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and statements from relatives, neighbours, and other witnesses are being recorded.
Authorities are also checking whether there had been any previous police complaints or reports of domestic violence involving the couple before the fatal incident.
