A tragic incident in Ballia district has led to public outrage after a father and son were killed in electrocution due to a high-tension electricity wire, and not only that as local power lines are so bad, but also to poor electricity department in the home.
Local reports said the father-son duo struck a live high-tension wire and received an electric shock that killed them. Local residents tried to save both people, but they died. The community was shocked to a tune and neighbors accused the electricity department of failing to maintain power lines and of ignoring complaints about unsafe wiring.
The tragedy took a dramatic turn when BJP MLA Ketki Singh arrived at the accident site after learning of the deaths. The legislator was clearly upset by the incident and confronted officials from the power department on what she said was gross negligence.
The video has been shared on social media. Ketki Singh is seen grabbing a power department official by the arm and taking him directly to the accident site and demanding answers. She can also be heard criticizing the officials for allegedly ignoring safety issues that could have prevented the fatal incident.
The MLA asked why the dangerous condition of the high-tension wire was not taken into account despite the complaints of local residents. She warned officials that negligence in public safety would not be allowed and asked for rapid corrective action to prevent similar tragedies from taking place and said she was not going to tolerate the situation.
Residents of the area also expressed their anger, arguing that exposed or sagging power lines had posed a threat for a long time. Many felt that the repair requests had not been made and so people had been left vulnerable to accidents.
