His teachings at a time when caste divisions are deeply rooted in social discrimination and hierarchy exists were about the dignity of work and universal equality in human relations. And he envisioned a world where people were not judged only on weight of birth but earned a place in it through their character and deeds. The Anubhava Mantapa widely recognized as one of the earliest democratic assemblies in the world was his initial influence on this political movement.
This was the forum that called together the thinkers, saints and ordinary folk to openly argue upon the spiritual and social issues the foundation for their progressive, dialogic philosophy. On Basava Jayanti, worshippers will pray, worship his teachings, and meditate on “Kayaka” dignity of work and “Dasoha” selfless service principles. These are still as applicable now but challenge us now to put our voice and give value to our personal lives and to respect the dignity of all professions and human lives. Basaveshwara’s ideas go beyond the bounds of the narrow realm of religion.
His perspective has much in common with his present-day social equality, empowerment and justice values. The way he speaks of how a good leader could and should be a person can be inspirational to us in the fast world as that is the story of a better world for diverse peoples that will bring people to come together, where harmony is a condition for a better people.
Basava Jayanti is usually marked by communities of religious and spiritual gatherings, or discourses and cultural programs devoted to his life and teachings. They are pleased to see him in attendance and validate the worth of all of his teachings.
Jagadguru Basaveshwara's teachings are timeless as society itself evolves. His themes such as equality, compassion and the right way to live keep millions fighting for a world of fairness and humanity.
