A fatal road accident in Bengaluru’s Kengeri Traffic Police limits claimed the life of a 45-year-old man and left three others seriously injured after an Eeco car rammed into two motorcycles from behind on Mysuru Road early Saturday morning.
The accident occurred at 6:45 AM on Mysuru Road, one of Bengaluru’s main arteries connecting the city with other towns and cities in southern Karnataka. Traffic in the vicinity was disrupted, and police and emergency services worked to avoid a repeat of the accident in the vicinity.
According to preliminary information, an Eeco car travelling along Mysuru Road collided with two motorcycles that were moving ahead of it. The collision resulted in a blast hitting the motorcycle riders on the road and heavy damage to the rest of the vehicles involved.
Sukhdev, 45, who was travelling in the Eeco car at the time of the accident, died at the scene, the police said. He had suffered critical injuries in the accident, they said.
Three people on motorcycles were seriously injured in the accident. Passersby and residents rushed to the scene right after the accident and notified emergency services. Ambulances arrived soon after and took the injured to a hospital near the accident site.
Doctors are currently monitoring the condition of the injured persons, and hospital authorities have said that they are receiving necessary medical care. Further details regarding their identities and health conditions are expected to be released after official confirmation.
Police officers from the Kengeri Traffic Police Station reached the accident site soon after the news of the incident was received. The area was briefly held up for rescue and to prevent further accidents. Traffic along the stretch was held up for a few minutes after the damaged vehicles were towed away and evidence was collected.
Investigators are looking into the causes of the collision. Preliminary evidence suggests the Eeco car struck the motorcycles from behind, but the exact reason for the accident is still being investigated. Police are looking into vehicle speed, driver attentiveness, road conditions, and visibility.
Officials will also review CCTV footage from nearby locations and collect statements from witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events. The damaged vehicles may be examined according to technical inspection as part of the inquiry.
Rear-end collisions are often caused by overspeeding, distracted driving, failure to maintain a safe following distance, or sudden braking, according to road safety experts. Drivers are warned to keep a safe following distance, safety experts say.
The tragic accident serves as another reminder of the need to follow traffic regulations and road discipline. Mysuru Road is one of Bengaluru’s busiest highways, and heavy traffic of cars, buses, trucks, and two-wheelers is seen every day.
A case has been registered, and the Kengeri Traffic Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
Still, some questions are left unanswered as families of the deceased and those affected are waiting for answers.
