The original scare of security during his visit to Bengaluru was only to take a strange turn once police found someone had been arrested in India for a bomb threat call in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address.
The accused, called Lohith, was being put under close inspection by police forces at the time of his arrest. According to the report, things such as the suspect's speech or behaviour have shocked even veteran officialdom.
Accused Had Numbers of Top Agencies
Police sources said Lohith apparently had contact numbers of numerous national investigation and security agencies. He allegedly had control room numbers and contact information for agencies, including but not limited to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA) and top-level police officials, in his phone, authorities said. Investigators claim the accused has developed a routine of making fake threats and relaying misinformation to law enforcement.
Alleged connections to High-ranking security officials
And Lohith is accused of making sensational accusations of ties to senior officials in India’s security infrastructure. Over and over, the accused alleged that he knew Ajit Doval and senior NIA officers, according to police sources. And to seemingly confuse investigators and paint himself as a man of connected networks, he allegedly mentioned Karnataka’s DGP and Bengaluru Police Commissioner.
The accused was alleged to have behaved as if he possessed inside information about security operations and investigation protocols.
Mental Health Issues Being Examined
Investigators believe Lohith has some serious psychological or unstable behaviour characteristics. It is reported that an initial investigation has found that he has made similar hoax calls to nearby police stations before. Authorities contacted his parents and the family members who had been disturbed by his odd behaviour all along. Additionally, the authorities took statements from his family, as the investigation continues.
PM Modi Visit Used as Trigger
The alleged case was that the accused utilised media information that the public could rely on about PM Modi’s expected presence in Bengaluru to incite panic based on the fake call claiming the PM had made a bomb threat. The police are looking over his phone records to see how many of those calls he may have made before, and whether he just called them all by himself.
All Stacks of Probe on
Due to the delicacy of the issue concerning the Prime Minister’s safety, police arrested the accused for extensive questioning, they said. Authorities say they are not dismissing whether or not the statements made by the accused were irrational or ruled out any alternative: investigators are not ruling out any prospect, including the possibility of a larger conspiracy.
The episode led to increased security in response to it during the Prime Minister’s visit and enabled collaboration between intelligence and security services. Officials said their investigation was still ongoing, and more details were pending after forensic analysis of the accused's phone and digital records.
