First in India, Bengaluru is the first city where residents can order HPCL LPG cylinders from Instamart, even if they don’t have an LPG connection.
It’s clear that the new service will be a more accessible source of cooking gas for students, professionals, tenants and households that need a quick and convenient solution for fuel.
HPCL and Instamart are a good first step to take to get the essential services that most people need out of the door for the quickest possible way of accessing the services.
Traditionally, the LPG connection is required to receive domestic cooking gas cylinders. This initiative will be more flexible for people that need to get LPG cylinders immediately without the need to go through the LPG connection process.
The service is currently being rolled out in Bengaluru as a pilot project. Customers can place orders through the Instamart app, and eligible HPCL LPG cylinders will be delivered directly to their doorstep in a short time, depending on service availability in their area.
The move is going to benefit thousands of people living in rented accommodation, paying guest (PG) facilities, hostels, and temporary housing. Many of these residents have a difficult time coming to LPG connections due to documentation or a shorter stay. HPCL and Instamart aim to bridge that gap and bring it to more convenience by streamlining the ordering process.
Industry experts believe this initiative is indicative of the growing use of quick-commerce platforms beyond grocery delivery.

Swiggy Instamart just partnered with HPCL to launch on-demand LPG cylinder delivery - the first quick commerce player in India to do this.
Starting in Bengaluru:
• HP Navya 10kg composite cylinders
• 5kg metal cylinders
• No…
Companies are expanding into products that we have to move beyond grocery delivery in the world of daily lives, such as household products, healthcare items, energy products and now energy products as consumer demand changes and a lot of people’s desires for fast and easy access to basic everyday needs and things like that are coming into the world of home products and stuff that they are now more and more frequently.
The launch also underscores Bengaluru’s place as a testing ground for new digital services. With a thriving technology ecosystem and huge use of apps, it is often the first of many pilot campaigns and larger scale product launches in the city before launching nationwide.
Consumers should respect all safety guidelines when handling LPG cylinders. Although the ordering process has gotten easier, the installation, storage and use of cylinders are important to keep the household safe. The delivery details and eligibility of the order should be verified by the user before placing the order.
And if the pilot is successful, HPCL could extend the service to other large cities in India. Such an expansion could change the way that families use cooking gas, particularly in urban areas where mobility and convenience are top of mind.
The project is also part of India’s digital transformation, where essential public and private services are being more integrated into online platforms. By combining the reliability of a major oil marketing company with the speed of a quick-commerce service, the partnership aims to redefine last-mile delivery for LPG.
If Bengaluru is able to show the way of this innovative model, the success of the program could lead to similar energy companies and digital delivery platforms to link up in a similar manner, and make essential services quicker and more accessible and friendly to the customer in the country.
