A road accident claimed two lives and left several passengers injured in a Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway accident early on Saturday. A Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus also crashed into a large highway signboard and overturned near Avaregere Gate in Ramanagara Taluk after a collision with a car.
The bus was travelling from Kerala to Bengaluru when the incident occurred, according to preliminary information. When the vehicle came to Avaregere Gate, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the bus crashed into a large directional signboard that was installed on the side of the highway. The collision was so bad that the bus overturned on the road and passengers were scared; they began to panic.
Two passengers died on the spot due to the force of the crash, the authorities confirmed. Their identities had not yet been released officially at the time of reporting. Many more people were hurt (cuts and bruises, though) but could still be injured. Emergency responders rushed to the site as soon as the accident was reported and started rescue efforts.
At hospitals, the injured were immediately sent to the hospitals. Hospital officials are following up on some of the passengers who suffered serious injuries and others who suffered less serious injuries. The exact number of injured passengers has not yet been officially confirmed, but authorities said several people were treated after the crash.
The accident also affected the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway - one of the major and busiest road corridors in Karnataka. As the overturned bus and road were still blocked and rescue efforts were ongoing, vehicle movement was affected for a long time. Long lines of vehicles formed on the highway as emergency workers tried to clear the accident scene and regain normal traffic flow.
When information about the incident arrived, personnel from the Bidadi Police Station and the Fire and Emergency Services Department quickly arrived at the location. Rescuers took care of the wounded, secured the site, and worked with medical staff to get victims into hospitals as soon as possible. At the same time, the damaged bus was being removed from the road and debris from the accident site was being cleared.
Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the exact cause of the crash. The vehicle, road conditions, driver fatigue, weather conditions, and possibly mechanical failures have been mentioned as factors that might have caused the accident. Passengers’ and witnesses’ statements will also be recorded as part of the investigation.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has seen several accidents since it opened, raising concerns about speeding, driver fatigue, and road safety. The safety of vehicles, the safety of drivers, and traffic rules, especially on high-speed corridors, are very much emphasised by transportation experts.
The tragic accident serves to remind us all of the dangers of long-distance highway travel. As authorities continue their investigation, condolences have been offered to the families of the deceased and hope for the successful recovery of those injured in the crash. The investigation will give further insight into what caused the fatal accident.
