Travelling on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has become more expensive with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announcing another increase in toll charges. The toll rates will be increased from yesterday, and the toll rate increases again within a year on one of Bengaluru’s busiest expressways.
The recent revision has increased toll charges by ₹5 to ₹35 depending on the category of the vehicle. So the travel expenses of daily commuters, transport operators, and commercial vehicle owners are now raised.
Second Toll Revision in One Year
This is the second time that toll charges have increased in nearly one year. The toll rates were revised on April 1, and now motorists are facing another increase within a few months.
The new revision applies to all vehicle categories using the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.
Revised Toll Charges
New toll rates are as follows:
Vehicle Category Previous Toll New Toll
Car/Jeep/Van ₹180 ₹185
Light Commercial Vehicle ₹285 ₹295
Bus/Truck ₹600 ₹620
Commercial Vehicle ₹655 ₹675
Heavy Vehicle ₹940 ₹970
Multi-Axle Vehicle ₹1,145 ₹1,180
The new charges are applicable at the toll plazas on the expressway.
Increased Burden on Commuters
The latest toll hike is expected to affect thousands of motorists who use the expressway every day for commuting between Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Mandya, and Mysuru.
Regular commuters have expressed concern that increasing toll charges make travel more expensive. Commercial transport operators also worry that the higher toll costs will increase logistics costs and the prices for goods and services will go up.
Key Corridor in Karnataka
The Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway has drastically reduced the travel time between the two cities and is a major transportation route for passenger vehicles, buses, and freight.
While commuters appreciate the improved road infrastructure and faster connectivity, it is the fact that toll charges kept getting changed so frequently that people need to pay tolls again and again that has made people increasingly frustrated and upset with that.
Motorists Seek Review
Several road users have asked the authorities to review how frequently toll revisions are done, how much toll revision is done, and what is reasonable about service level and road maintenance on the expressway.
For now, the drivers on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway are advised to note the revised toll rates while driving their way.
