A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) working for Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s Office has faced legal scrutiny after his wife filed a complaint accusing him of dowry harassment, domestic violence, and verbal abuse.
According to the complaint, Rekha (referred to as Revathi in some reports; authorities will confirm the details) went to Kengeri Police Station and reported that her husband, PSI Byrappa, had been harassing her with dowry-related demands.
The complainant alleged that her husband repeatedly taunted and abused her for not bringing a house and a residential site as dowry. She said he frequently abused and harassed her over the issue, and also put severe mental stress on her.
Besides dowry-related allegations, the woman has accused the PSI of physically assaulting her. In her complaint, Byrappa returned home after drinking alcohol on several occasions and attacked her during arguments, she said.
The lawsuit further states that the alleged harassment was not a one-off, but was part of a much more systematic pattern of physical and mental cruelty. The woman finally went to the police to seek legal protection and to take action against her husband.
Following the complaint, officials at Kengeri Police Station have started legal proceedings in line with the allegations made. The specific sections of the law used by the police have not yet been made public.
Since the accused is a Police Officer in the Commissioner’s Office, the investigation will be closely monitored. The allegations may also be examined separately by departmental authorities under police service rules.
Police officials have said the matter is under investigation and that statements of both the complainant and the accused will be recorded. Evidence to support the case from witness statements and any documentary or electronic evidence will be collected before a conclusion.
At this point, the allegations are made by the complainant. The accused officer has yet to publicly respond to the claims, and his version of events has not yet been reported. The outcome of the investigation will determine the next course of legal and departmental action.
Dowry harassment and domestic violence remain serious offences under Indian law. All complaints should be investigated with due process followed by all parties involved, the authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as police continue their inquiry.
